I have a pair of 10x42's. They can accomodate a tripod and doubler to make them a 20x spotting scope. Has anyone tried this or used this equipment? Does it work? Thanks

Dogcat, If those are 10x42 SLCs, you can fit them to a tripod using a special tripod adaptor. The is a "blanking cap" over the front of the hinge screw ( it marked "Made in Austria") and this cap unscrews to allow the adaptor to be screwed in. As for the doubler, they don't seem that that popular over here and most folks seem to end up going the route of a proper spotting scope. As they are quite an expensive bit of kit, at the very least I would try one before buying... Regards, Pete

I own the 10x42 EL's, the tripod adaptor, and the doubler. I frequently use the tripod adaptor with tripod for an unbelievably stable(therefore high resolution), comfortable, and strain-free viewing system. MUCH better on the eyes, even at a measly 10x, than extended viewing through even the best spotter (Leica Televid). Easier on both the eyes and arms. If you want the doubler, I would gladly sell it. In my opinion, it is a good idea that didn't work. Obviously due to the decrease in exit pupil, the image is not as bright, but what is more apparent (and less forgivable) is the loss of RESOLUTION. Without which, you don't have "good glass". Eyestrain is much worse, and occurs almost instantly, probably due to constantly trying to improve the focus/resolution. After purchase, this was admitted over the phone to me by a Swarovski rep. I have also used the doubler with the 10x50 SLC on a tripod, and found the same result, as did a handful of fellow viewers. So, I would highly recommend the tripod adaptor, and carry mine anywhere that I can comfortably carry a tripod. I found better resolution at the 10x of the binocular than the 20x of the doubler. Others may certainly have a different experience.
