I was surfing the web today looking for a wool hat for this winter and came across a few UK web sites, associated with country living and hunting.

The main selections under "sporting accessories" consisted of sling shots and air rifles.

It is truly sad that the purveyors of the great expeditions, including hunting safaris, fox hunting, and the sporting lifestyle in general of a century ago have now succumbed into the dark dungeons of political correctness, timidity, selfdoubt, and blame-myself-first mentality.

It seems to be the goals of all liberals.

Will,

William Powell of Birmingham still make some of the best game shotguns in the world and if you take their catalogue, the first two pages carry two or three pictures of their best and cheaper heritage series guns followed by more than 20 pages of clothing and sundry product ads.

Sad, very sad.

There are still a few British companies that cater to the sporting lifestyle, though they do it in a way that is somewhat different than our meat and potatoes Cabela's. Even Holland and Holland has quit selling their clothing directly and is now using other retailers for distrubution.

Anyway, here are a few Britsh firms that are still hanging in there: Savile Row, Purdey, and a business here in the US, British Sporting Ltd, that offers a outdoor clothing from a variety of English firms such Purdey, Barbour, and Glengarnock.

All that said, when would an English hunting hat like this

be better than an American wool classic like this????

Alf, did you see the new proposed Canada and USA boundries, you'll get all the blue as they join your borders or others states that join your borders. I will have to relocate as I live in one and want to be in the Red area.

Will,

Take a look out of the window; there's a whole wide world out there not on the Net!

Truth is we have never had it so good as far as hunting equipment goes. Each year we see more and more kit avilable from all over the world while small local company's are springing up to supply us with various things tailor made to our conditions. Heck, we can even get Climbing Tree Stands now!

The top end shops like Holland and Holland, BOSS and Purdy are still there, but there has been a huge expansion in the "middle" market which reflects the continued growth in popularity of stalking and other shooting sports.

Regards,

Pete
