"Jericho’s head was also removed from his body and taken back to Hwange’s main camp for safe keeping - a lion's is worth a great deal of money to trophy hunters, many of whom travel to Zimbabwe from America and Europe and pay high sums for the head of a wild animal to hang on their walls as trophies." Heads are worth a lot of money to trophy hunters etc. What crap.

So natural causes = no income vs. hunting at a fee...

Didn't you know that us evil "trophy" hunters are also scavengers? Maybe there is a new market oportunity here. Charge a daily fee to drive around looking for already dead stuff. Think of the money and hassle you'd save on not having to permit or ship your rifles. tu2

.

Jane Flanagan free lance journalist in Cape Town hashing up old Cecil news off the back of Jerichos death. Probably one of the poorest pieces of nature print that I have ever read. Well done Flanagan and the. Daily Mail !

Did Cecil leave a will or did he die intestate? Did Jericho leave any surviving heirs to inherit his estate? Who will take under his will, unless he died intestate as well. What is Zim's probate procedures? What about the Rule in Shelly's case? Perhaps the Anti's will guide his case through probate for him. Was there a Coroners Inquest as to the cause of death and is it recorded on Jericho's death certificate?

Are the Anti's ponying up to cover funeral costs? Headstone, vault, etc...?

Yeah. More than likely they wanted the skull as a trophy.

One of the anti hunters biggest arguments led by Dereck Joubert against hunting is the myth that a living lion can be photographed over and over again as against one bullet, ummm well no more photos and no revenue and in the mind of the locals no value for Mr Jericho , had he been hunted in his prime - also after been photographed for over 6 years , he would have been hunted at enormous tangible benefit to everybody . Conservation is the wise use and includes all aspects of conservation from photography to hunting.

Fucking amazing society we live in?

Some dip shit Lion called Cecil gets killed and we go viral.

A photographic guide gets killed days later by the same pride and it hardly bears a mention.

And now Jerico? Try to google this Lion prior to the the demise of Cecil. these Lions do not exist.

It seems there may be a wrongful death suit here. The park management was on notice that dangerous dentists frequent the area (Cecil's experience) and were negligent in providing reasonable security for poor Jericho. His wife(s) and children have been left without income and security and are due reasonable damages! One question though: How to find and notify his heirs?

African Leadwood -
Per your observation about buying animal heads for trophies, on my first safari, a RSA PH offered a mounted ele head for $10,000.
I politely refused the offer, but I suppose that there is some market for such.
