Years ago we were in Germany, sharing a hotel room.

The room was for non smokers, and Walter smoked.

He used to go to the bathroom to smoke.

I told him he is going to get the fire spray going if he did not stop.

And as usual, this led to an argument between us, ans Walter wanted to prove that the system did not work!

So top prove his point, he gets on a chair, and starts smoking right under the smoke detector!

Not long after this, all hell broke loose, and we were drenched in water spray!

They had to move us to another room, and the hotel was not very impressed with us.

He had a long discussion with them in German! clap

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

Ben's 100 was developed by a friend of mine here in Maine, (Mark Mowatt). It was named after his young son Ben. It works great on the black flies and mosquitoes here in Maine but do not get it near monofilament fishing line. I will dissolve it like a hot knife going through butter.

When I was hunting grizzly bear in June in Alaska, my guide was using a product called BushMan. He said that it worked so well in Australia when he was hunting there, that he bought an entire case of it and brought in back home to the 49th. I read where one guy said that it was the only thing that would work on Tsetse flies in Kenya. Big Grin I do know this, if you got it on your lips they would go numb! rotflmo

Cameras on safari.

Everyone carries a Canon SX740HS pocket camera with a 40X optical zoom.
Sony RX10IV - this is a bridge camera with a 1 inch sensor and 25 X zoom.
Sony A7sII with 2 lenses. A 100-400mm and a 24-70 F2.8 for low light conditions.
Nikon P1000 125X optical zoom - we have not tried this, and hope it produces good results.

The previous one, a P900 with an 83X zoom, was not really that good at general photography, but had the reach where others were totally useless.

Sony AX700 video camera.

Several GoPro 6 Black, and several trail cams for baits and waterholes.

DJI Mavic Pro 2
DJI Mavic Pro 2 Zoom.

We are hoping to get good photos and good videos to share with you all.

Walter is being trained to operate the drone.

His first question was "how do you crash it?" rotflmo

So we had to end that lesson.

He went to a local shop to get rifle scopes.

I called the shop owner to ask him what to give Walter.

He said Walter has been there, but took no scopes??!

Then he sends me a video of his security camera, showing Walter in the back office enjoying himself with the girls who work there.

He kisses them as he comes in, and kisses them as he leaves.

But forgets to get what he went there for!! rotflmo

The shop owner says the girls always enjoy Walter’s visit!

I bet they do clap

Thank you.

WE have had a number of AR members visit us as they fly through Dubai.

Great to meet people one has known for years on the Forums.

WE have had so much trouble last year with Thuraya Sat modem we have decided not to use them any more.

Alan is having one set up in the camp right now, and we have been given an Inmarsat modem to try.

So hopefully we will not have all the pointless hassle we had last year, and be able to provide you all with our live daily report.

Hessa is very keen on hunting, trouble is she is busy at school this time of year.

We are making plans for a special trip for her during the summer break.

She has her own rifles, which she loves to work on and shoot.

She installs her own scopes and sight them in herself.

And she is an extremely good shot too.

She had some friends coming over to shoot, and she wanted them to shoot full pop cans to blow them up.

So I got a Remington 40X 220 Swift loaded, and told her to try it.

She fired 5 shots for the first time, and got a group of 0.238" for 5 shots!! Load was 40 grains of Reloader 15, and a Bill Brawand 52 grain bullet.

Roy and Rene head over to Dar this morning.

They stopped over here for a couple of days on their way from the States.

We all had a very enjoyable dinner with AR member DLS, who is a close friend of Roy and Rene.

Dan was on his way on safari too, and he was stopping in Dubai at the same time as Roy and Rene are here, so it was a great opportunity for all of us to get together.

Hunting makes life long friends.

Dan hunted with Roy the same year I hunted with Roy for the first time in the early 80's.

Just goes to show that like minded people's friendship never dies.

This photo is on the wall on our shooting room.

It is of Hessa and Walter 16 years ago!!

Once she started making sense, Walter became a bit careful how to deal with her.

He is very disappointed, saying to her "you are becoming as nasty as your dad!"

And to her, that is the best compliment anyone can give her!

It is Hessa's 16th birthday today, and all her best friends arrived very early in the morning to wish her well, and they all left together to school.

When Hessa was a baby, she would not leave Alan alone!

Now Alan has his own son, and he seems to have taken an attachment to me.

Apparently he wakes up early and says to his dad "I want to go shoot with uncle Saeed".

Glad to see our kids are growing up to be normal human beings, which makes us all very proud of them.
