Singleshot03TAA and outdoor shows
Why don't most shows tell what rifle and caliber the hunters are using? I watched an episode this week I think In tanzania for mixed bag and I would have liked to know what caliber the hunter was shooting.
Granted even if they are not advertisers could you mentioned it once?

Idaho SharpshooterTAA does quite a bit. The issue would be how to discuss it without sounding like an infomercial. Yes, I'd like to know too.
"Hi, I'm ______ ___________ from _____________ and this is my __________ in ____ caliber. For this hunt I've chosen to use _______ factory ammunition, a ________ scope, and ___________ sling..."

BigBRich,
That is the way Uncle Ted does it. I wish he would ease up a bit on the constant comercial.

It probably wasn't a ruger gun with a trijicon scope.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

AnotherAZWriterAt least they aren't using TC single shots - what a joke. How many TV hosts use TCs vs the rest of us?
But come on, we get the show free; someone has to pay for it.

SevensI would suspect that a lot of it has to do with who is sponsoring the show. Take for example Federal Ammunition's "Dangerous Game." The show is sponsored by Federal (obviously) and Beretta. Since the show is primarily sponsored by Federal, the show ALWAYS has a segment regarding which caliber and bullet (from the Federal Ammunition line) the hunter is using. Most likely, the hunter is given ammunition by Federal. No big deal there, everyone likes free ammo and Federal makes a reliable product. If the hunter happens to be using a Beretta product, like a Sako 85 or a Beretta double rifle (the most commonly mentioned guns on the show), they will also make note of that when mentioning what caliber and ammo.
You don't want to displease your sponsors, so it would be highly unlikely that the show would say the hunter is using a Winchester M70 with Hornady ammunition. I don't think the show will prevent the hunter from using "old faithful," but they may gloss over the maker if it's a sponsor's competitor.
Singleshot, I'm with you though. I wish we could hear a lot more about what rifles and calibers hunters are using, especially on the more exotic hunts.

Singleshot03An episode a couple of weeks ago which I forget the details but the hunter was supposely the marketing manager for Trijicon. I liked the rifle and I emailed trijicon ( i forgot his name) to find out what kind it was and still have not heard back from them.
At a minimum no harm in saying caliber or go to our websight for more details on the weapon, ammo...

mrfuddI was unsure of the combo too, but that guy could shoot. It looked like everything dropped at the shot except the eland. I could have tracked his animals!
