I wonder, did it ever happen that one got a nice trophy, ie a buffalo, gave it to a taxidermist to have it mounted and on its way from the taxidermist to your home, that trophy got lost? Sounds odd, but did it happen to one or some of you?

Yes, My Appx. 115 SCI buffalo with 16 5/8 bosses turned into a much smaller one that didn't even come close to 100 [95] with 11 inch bosses. Tags could have been switched at any point from camp to shipping. Or, it could have been left in the bleach tank too long. Anyway, I have my memories and pictures. All the best, SXS

I seem to remember something a few years ago where a forum member shipped his trophies by sea and the ship either ran aground or sank - but I don't remember what the outcome was..... perhaps someone else has a better memory about the end result?

I remember that too, the ship actually sank and the trophies are at the bottom of the sea. Good Hunting,

I´m asking ´cause I know of a person in the States who purchased some years ago a buffalo at an Unclaimed Baggage Center. Apparently the buffalo was hunted in SA. Strange story...

Not yet, BUT I've had the WORST experiences with the three I've tried. First one took 10 years to do nothing. I took back my rack but he'd lost my cape. I took the rack and another cape to another taxidermist who took 5 MORE years and until my 6'4" had a "talk" with him and said, "You WILL have this done by Christmas for my dad". Next one promised me that he'd complete it in 6 months after I told him of my horror story of the other two. That was 2 years ago and he's changed his phone number, closed his website, and promised me that mine woudl be next for over 9 months! UGH! Karamojo Bill At then end of my time here, I want to come skidding through the Pearly Gates & hear God say, "Whoa Boy, that was a hell of a ride!"

No but one of mine made the front page of the local paper . One of the papers photograpers saw my Garaffi shoulder mount on the back of my taxidermist's pickup and took a photo which made the front page. It did not reference my name but it appeared many people knew where it was headed.

I never had one lost on it's way to me, but I had a Kudu lost when the shop burned down.

I have had bad luck on more more than once. In my first shipment my Zebra Skin and warthog mount were missing. On shipment number two, yet another zebra skin and a Springbuck went missing. On shipment #3 from Zimbabwe my buffalo shoulder mount had the left side horn broken off at the boss. There was a large hole in the box like a forklift had been used to push it...and had broken through. I was able to get it fixed and it looks fine now. Having said all this, my buddies have had more animals shipped than I and none ever had any problems. Like I said...bad luck. ****************************************************************** R.
