Regarding baby elephants and crocs, have you ever been told the story of when Barry Bell Cross and his wife Guida (owners, with son Rich, of Pro Hunt Zambia)were with fairgame and his wife and all were going by boat down the Kafue River to a picnic spot? They all saw a baby elephant swim past their boat, the tip of its trunk above the waterline, but its body in the jaws of a croc. Barry jumped from the boat onto the croc's back and beat on its head until it released the baby, which swam to shore. The party took their boat to shore and tried to comfort the baby, which huddled up with them. Its mother and the rest of her herd suddenly appeared on the riverbank above them, but, fortunately, they turned and walked away with the baby clinging to it's mother's tail. This story was hand-written by Guida into the guest book at the south camp of Pro Hunt Zambia. Rich and Barry and Andrew all have verified it. I think that fairgame (Andrew Baldry) posted it on AR some time ago. Perhaps he will post it again. He was there and he tells the story with a grace and style that I cannot attain. It is a truly remarkable and memorable story. Only in Africa...... | |||
