My shipment from Zim for my 2011 safari finally came in today. I have attached a picture of one tusk from my elephant. I have concluded that either this elephant was not 59 and change or the one the prior year was not 56.

What do you think?

three pounds is a tough amount to estimate in particular when you cant see the nerve cavity ...either way thats a great tusk ....

Ivan, I agree with you. I am 100% sure there is more than a 3 pound difference. This tusk is longer and thicker significantly. A whole heck of a lot longer and thicker. There is about as much chance of my ex wife not wanting any more alimony as there is these tusks having only a 3 pound difference.

I am trying to decide if I think this one is more than 59 or the other is less than 56.

I honestly believe that different scales gave different results.

Larry
If you are truly that disappointed, you can always send the tusk to me and all of my handguns will then have ivory grips.
Nice tusk

Not at all disappointed. I know one weight is wrong. I wish I knew which.

I assume you now have both tusks. Seems the weight questions would be pretty easy to solve with a scale... Damn nice looking tusk in any case! Congratulations,

Not really. One is mounted and has had a year longer to dry out.

OK, you can at least weigh the unmounted tusk you are holding.

Or, look for the weight stamped into each tusk along with a registration number prior to export. Should be able to find those on your mounted ones too. Those stamped weights will be in Kikos, so multiply by 2.205 and you'll get pounds...

That's a good looking fang Larry! Did it come off of one of those Gilchrist Mosquito's?!

All kidding aside, what a great feeling! To finally be holding your Ele tusk in your hands, stateside, after clearing USFWS!

Thanks Todd. I think it a bit too small to come off of those mosquitoes!

I wouldn't say anything negative about the weight considering that my 8 year old son barely weighs that much.
Wonder if he's worth his weight in ivory? Hmmmm

HBH:

I don't think 3.5 inch mags in a 12 GA would take some of those mosquitoes out!
