I have not been paying attention to the changes but I am having Air 2000 handle the transer in Joburg. I currently do not have the serial number on the barrel of my Sako 375 or on the 2 barrels for my TC Encore. What is currently being demanded? Thanks Mike

Air 2K will be able to give you up to date info on what's required. Rules ar currently still changing esp regarding handguns - but they'll be on top of it all......

Just FYI, I took my Blaser R93 to South Africa last year and dutifully had the receiver's serial number registered on the U.S. Customs form, as is the legal practice in the U.S. When I got to SAPS at JNB, they wanted the serial number on the barrel (where the chambering is also marked) and that's what they recorded on the temporary import form. (Luckily, Blaser barrels do have their own serial numbers!) This is likely to apply in the case of your Encore. --- Eric Ching "The pen is mightier than the sword...except in a swordfight."

I was in South Africa late May and early June. I used Air 2000 and it was the very easy with no problems. We had a woman meet us and she escorted us to the customs line. Then we went to the firearm line and I opened the case and read my serial number to one of the firearm officials. He never even looked at my gun. The cost was $125 and worth every penny. If we had waited 3-4 hours I never would have killed a zebra that evening. I hunt, not to kill, but in order not to have played golf.... DRSS

And I would have been waiting for you for 5 or 6 hours instead of just 2.5! Couldn't resist! I will 2nd what Roger said...the $125 was well worth it. They barely even looked at my rifle. The "assisted" rifle owners get the red carpet treatment compared to those that try to clear SAPS themselves. Cheers, Canuck
