DCS MemberI used the SIAI group in 08. I think they are the NRA provider, but will go with Cor-Vens now. They are the DSC provider and may provide a discount for members.
I meant to be DSC Member...bad typing skills.

I've used SIAI, but believe you must be NSSA member.
Cor-vens is CONUS only . . . from the application: "Program not available in: Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, or outside of the United States."

You can use it if you are an SCI member.

Jack D BoldJust shopped for gun insurance for my upcoming trip to Zim.
Corvens was
one third the price of that outfit selling insurance at SCI.
Thank you for the tip Ivan,

NRA also has insurance but it is for 1 year coverage.

jetdrvrSIAI is a dollar per hundred of appraised value. They're good for scopes, mounts, rings, binos, spotting scopes and any custom work done on the weapon. Nice people, too and a neighbor of mine done the road at Ormond Beach. I've used them for a few years, but have never had a claim. I got onto them through SCI but the last time I renewed they didn't ask for a membership number, which is good because mine has expired.

Thank you for the tip Ivan,
I will second Jack's thank you, Ivan.
I believe that I am going to switch from SIA to Core-Vens.

larrys01Signed up with Core-Vens today. Also joined DSC.

FrostbitJust talked with Core-Vens. Unfortunately it's true they cannot write for residents of Alaska and Hawaii. They will be meeting with the "brass" in two months but don't get your hopes up.

Ed ScarboroI used Cor-Vens as well before I went over with my Merkels.

larrys01I got my Policy # and data today. Also DSC Members get a bonus. Should be all set for Namibia next month.

BigBBearI am waiting for a call back from Corvens but have two questions.
1)has anyone on here actually had a claim and if so how was it dealt with?
2)Will they insure guns taken to Africa. I am a bit unclear on that reading the posts above and the geography may only be about where you live.
Thanks,
Larry

Do me a favor and ask them if they write policies in Alaska yet. They didn't a year ago.

StonecreekI'm afraid I don't understand: If you can afford a trip to Africa, how can the loss of the dollar value of a firearm merit the trouble and expense of insuring it?
Insurance is intended to collectivize a risk which you cannot afford to absorb yourself, so you pay to pool your risk and therefore absorb a little of everyone's losses, plus the overhead and profit that is added onto the losses to pay the insurer for his services. All of this is represented by the premium.
Even a very expensive firearm could hardly fall into that category meriting insurance if (1) you can afford to own the firearm, and (2) you can afford to use it in Africa.
I've heard some say that "my rifle is rare and irreplaceable at any price, therefore I'm going to fully insure it". How does this make sense? If it can't be replaced, then insuring it doesn't keep you from losing it, it only gives you money in exchange (minus the price of the premium), and if money can't replace it, then how are you made whole?
Now, maybe you're a $50,000 per year working guy who happens to somehow finds himself the owner of a $50,000 double rifle and wants to take it to Africa for a hunt you won in a raffle. Then it would make perfect sense to insure the rifle (though perhaps not as much sense as leaving it in the rented bank vault and taking a Rem 700, which you could lose and still make no difference in whether your children attend college).
Maybe I'm missing something about an individual's situation and what motivates one to purchase insurance on his trappings. Would be happy to have it explained.

larrys01I'll try;
Cor Bon insures your collection for a $100,000.00 for $350.00/Year. This covers Fire, Flood, Theft, Airline loss, ect.
Lets say the airline looses your guncase containing a $15000.00 Dbl rifle, a $1500.00 Bolt gun and $2500.00 worth of Scopes.
Do the math there.
Or your house gets flooded while your in Africa and all your guns in the basement stored in gun safes get wet. I think I would want them insured.
Would you also say that Home and Auto insurence
are also poor investments?
I should mention that the Flood while in Africa happened to me. Glad I had the Gun Insurence I had.
Just my .02 cents worth.

Pretty much agree with everything you say, Larry. It's money well spent, IMHO.
