We are going to South Africa in June; my brother and his son are both hunting. The question is do the rifles go in two cases or one? (no toughpack dialog please)

Doyle

Eventhough it is more hassle to handle more luggage I think I might suggest everyone have his own case for his own guns. In this way if one looses his guns that does not mean that the other will loose his also.

Doyle,
You can put two rifles in one case. You cannot put three without incurring added charges, if at all. Kudude

You have to put ammo in your stowed bag in a separate locked contained. I got two of those 100 round MTM boxes and bolted a simple hasp on them, and two small locks keyed to the same key. Worked well. Kd

500 is right. 2 cases. You may never have a problem but the day you do you will be glad that you used 2.

Yes two, and I would split each others ammo between you in case a rifle arrives but the duffle with its ammo goes missing.

This is belt and suspenders I'd bet but I'd rather be safe.

Obviously two guns in one case makes a neater traveling arrangement. But when two different owners of two different guns are in the same case, this tends to confuse some (not all) customs agents. They don't like being confused. When they do get confused they make you miserable as payment (at the very least).

I'm sure at least some here traveling alone have taken a couple guns over in the same case.

There is no problem with two guns from two different owners in one case, if one of the owners takes both guns to the Treasury/Customs people to get the form 4457. As far as the country in Africa is concerned, the person whose name is on the form is the "owner." Kudude

not only take 2 cases, but split you stuff more or less equally into your luggage. That way if one bag gets lost you will hav enough to get by on until they maybe will get the lost bag to you
