No doubt South African high fence stuff.

I find him often annoying. I did like watching Aporkalypse. My kids are now hounding me to do the heli-hog shoot.

I think he epitomizes the worst of what outdoors television has to offer, a redneck on steroids with a six pack and a camera. When we think about those that we would have portray and in essence represent us as hunters to much of the public (television, Facebook, etc.), I cringe. He is entertaining only in the voyeuristic way some might find an auto accident entertaining.

I have known this kid since he was a baby,,His mom lives just down the road from me. I used to fish Bass Tournaments against his dad. This kid is living the dream. The one thing I can promise you about him, he is just like he is on Tv in person and hasn't changed one single bit since he was a kid. If he gets under your skin on Tv,,,double that in person. His show receives very high marks and wins awards every year and I do watch it often but sometimes can't finish the show. A "Production" company has been filming a reality Tv show here in Mexia Texas where he is from about the "Life of the Pigman" He is a talker and a self promoter but is making a living at it with lots of sponsors.
This has got to be a great country, the land of Opportunity, to see a redneck kid grow up and be a "Tv personality" Maybe someday I can be president,,,when pigs fly!!!

Nope Dave...one more of us...

The canned lions on TV being portrayed as wild is one of my biggest complaints as it is demeaning when a real lion is hunted on TV. Public perception is they are all the same.

Sorry Tim, you qualify for very sure!! My overlook
buddy. But we are in the great minority for damn sure. But why book a 18-21 day real hunt when you can kill two in two days then bullshit the networks and legion of Pigfans about your Kalahari lion in WILD AFRICA. Thanks for doing it right Tim.

I can't remember which show it was. They were hunting lions in the RSA. In the background, you can see power lines and cars on the road.

Back to the Pigman. Did anyone see the episode where they were chasing the hogs in an air boat? They are damn lucky no one got hurt or killed.

But Saeed, your lions were wild. "Pigman's" were in a small enclosure with high fences- you were hunting, he was killing.

I don't know "Pigman" and have never watched his show but when he was onstage at the Golden Moose Awards at SHOT he was booed and heckled. That says a lot from an otherwise courteous audience.

While I have never shot an animal in any enclosure or arranged any canned hunt let alone a lion hunt. I have to be honest in saying that the supply is there because of the demand. These days more and more "so called hunters" want 100% guarantees that they will kill everything on the menu and are ready to bitch and moan and bad mouth you right here on AR if they do not. Never mind that they cannot walk to the animal, cannot see it and cannot shoot straight.

A well known booking agent told me candidly the other day he has more or less given up trying to make a living arranging free range hunts. It is far easier to send someone on a canned hunt, the client comes back happy with tales of daring do that he can share with all his great hunting buddies and all is well.

The pig man, duck man, raccoon man, bear man all cater to and are heroes of these great hunters!

Sadly I feel that is the future of hunting once this last generation of fewer and fewer true hunters has passed by.

Bud,

Actually, this was a very easy lion hunt.

I hunt lion every year I go on safari, and I have had a lot more safaris without shooting one than actually even seeing one.

On the same concession, we have followed lions for days, and got nothing.

On this particular occasion, we were actually hunting buffalo in the morning, when we cam across a herd that seemed very agitated.

Roy said this was a sure sign of lions bothering them, so we should leave them alone, and come back later hoping to find the lions on a kill.

We came back, and found the lion tracks and followed them.

Walter stayed in the truck.

about 15 minutes later, we found them. I shot one, and the rest took off. A few seconds later, a large lioness came back at full charge.

We were in no danger, as she was in the open. She stopped a few yards from us, and went and stood by her dead mate.

We had a lioness on quota, so I shot her. She dropped down and was struggling about, I put another shot into her.

Walter turned up soon after, got off the truck and walked towards us.

"I heard three shots, so where is the third lion?"

Roy told him I missed the third lion, but if Walter wants to follow it and kill it, he is welcome to it.

His answer was "do you think I am as daft as you and your friend here to chase lions in this thick bush?"

I'd wager a decent amount that more than 60% of AR members with lion mounts have killed then behind fence. I did and make no excuses for as it was what it was little difference to me than all the other high fence shooting in Africa, Europe or the Americas. Somehow killing a auction bought and transferred 40+ sable on a ranch is Ok but not a captive lion.
Wasn't Tim Herald connected to or involved with "The Magnum Hunt Club's" Dunham's high fence operation in Sask. at one time?
As to Mr. Pigman there must be a market for his style or his sponsorS wouldn't be picking up his product.
Someone made the comment as to the future of hunting when the current ranks are devoid of "real" hunters...oddly enough my grandfather made those same statements to me when I was a kid back in the 40's.

Let's not make this about lion hunting in South Africa, I could care less if he is hunting lion in South Africa or lion in Tanzania, the guy is just a piss poor ambassador of our sport. Literally, every time I see him I think of some redneck with a beer in one hand telling his buddies, "Hey fellows, watch this [Insert Something Mindless]".

We have a lot of T.V. that act wrong after a kill.
I like Nugent for his stand on gun ownership, not His show.
Razor Dobbs is the as bad as Pigman.
We all look blood thirsty on T.V.
I still hunt S.A. but do not overplay the hunting any more then Ohio whitetail farms.

A kudu or whitetail is one thing, lion quite another in MHO. We'll see if he is honest about it, or tries to pass it off as " the rouge Kalahari lion who swam the river to kill cattle" as the vast majority do on TV. Just be honest and I back waaay off the subject.

Pigman certainly doesnt portray anything good about our sport and is a VERY poor ambassador.
On a sililar note I recently watched Michael Waddel shoot, what appeared to be a very accomodating cape buffalo, with his bow.

I agree 100% with Dave, but those are just our opinions.

BTW...Rob Dunham that owns a high fence deer and elk ranch in Sask. is one of the owners of our company, but I have never been there to hunt because I choose not to. Rob owns that place completely separate from The Magnum Hunt Club or our production company. To each their own. I am not bashing high fences- like Dave, I just hate to see TV guys portray captive raised/hunted lions as something they are not.

I am not a Nugent TV show fan but I do like some of what he says and I very much appreciate him standing up for what he stands for. He will put his name on everything he says; right or wrong.

I just cannot watch a show with someone named "Pigman". Tim, if you go by something like that in the future I cannot watch your show either. Smiler

This I tend to agree with.

Tim Herald: you present yourself as a standup guy and I respect that. I have no reason to think otherwise of you nor go on some "AR witch hunt" like this forum's regular readers know of way to well which this thread is bound to turn into. The fact is I admire Pigman for finding a way to make a buck off something he enjoys doing. He is BTW a very good rifle builder in his own right.

For a Kalahari high fence lion hunt he was likely here http://www.leeuwbosch.co.za/ . These shows seem to go to the same lodges.

My hunting partner did a lioness hunt there (he knew it was in a fence) and The Trophy Quest show was hunting there the week before. TQ has a BS story about how the lions were marauding local villages and stock and they saved the day by shooting it. The lion must have jumped the electric fence back in to be shot. If they have a problem saying on the show it was a fenced hunt they should not do it. I understand this way they can have a schedule and guaranteed results for the camera just be honest about it
I will watch the show to see if it is the same place.

The lodge is very nice with very good service; we also hunted plains game there, bait.
