Trophies
I'm going to South Africa the end of June for the first time. I have no room left to put up another animal. I have three whitetails and an elk at the taxidermist now and have no wall space left.I hate to do my first African hunt and not get my trophies mounted however I may just do European mounts this time around.
My question if I get 5 animals like kudu, impala, Gemsbok etc. how much would it cost for dipping, packing, and shipping to the JFK vs. how much to just ship back skulls for European mounts.

Thanks
Joe

I've had similar sized shipments twice from Namibia to Atlanta and including capes and back skins the total was about $1,000 to $1,100 each time, which incuded about $450 for Coppersmith's fees to clear.

joe,
Contact your PH and ask him who he uses to dip/pack and ship. Most will use Taxidermists to handle this. Cost can vary widely. You can clear shipments yourself, but be prepared for problems just in case. Customs Brokers will charge you $400+ but handle those problems. Since your near New York, contact John or Matt at Fauna & Flora @ 718-977-7700 ext 1 to request a import info package. There are options to importation of trophies, so cost does vary. Another thing; for what it will cost to import your skulls & horns, I would ship my capes home as well. They sell like hotcakes and most Taxidermists would trade you capes for Euro mounts. Saves money. Email or call me if you need help.
Good hunting,
David

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

LDK: That's good advice on bringing the capes home even if one is not going to shoulder mount. I suppose it also gives the person the option of either going shoulder or european.
