Have added a "long weekend" onto a hunt that has just been organised after at our Local SCI Show here in Australia, through a Safari Operator from South Africa that made the long flight over to Oz.
Looking for suggestions on the best way to see/experience Cape Town on a short three night two day visit, last weekend in May 2015, for my Wife and myself.
Will be staying at the Victoria and Albert Hotel Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
Look forward to any suggestions
Scott

Hi Scott,

My wife and I did exactly that, but on the front end in order to adjust to the time change and recover from the long flight.

The two most memorable for me was the Stellenbosch Wine Country Tour and driving personally down to the point and back, stopping at roadside vendors along the way.

My experiences in Africa are extremely limited so I expect you will get many additional ideas.

Best regards, Fred

If you have not yet booked your Cape Town tour, you might consider contacting Joe and Nicole da Silva at the address below.

They offer one-day and multiple-day sightseeing, antelope hunting and bird-shooting in that area. They are great people. If you contact them, please say hello for me.

sjb,

Might want to check out how the fires have effected the area. The news sounded pretty grim.

Two days in Cape Town can be well spent with one day in the wine country as Fred suggests. You might actually stay overnight in Stellenbosch, a charming town with a very old university. You won't have any trouble renting a car and driving on the bizarre side of the road, what with your Oz background. Get a GPS if you are cartographically challenged...

The second day would be spent in Cape Town itself, probably best at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens where the restaurant serves a good lunch and will break a fascinating day in one of the great places on the Cape. If you are desperate for a good short hike, go first to the Rhodes Memorial and walk from it along the Table Mountain contour path to the top of the Botanical Gardens and then down to lunch. As I recall, it's a bit more than an hour walk and the trail is easy.

You will likely have taken a taxi up to the Rhodes Memorial and can get one back from Kirstenbosch to the V&A on the waterfront. This would be no fun in the rain which is always possible in May as winter in the Cape is wet, unlike the rest of South Africa/Namibia.

Regards, Tim

Thanks for the assistance with things to do. Will check them out.
Mark with the fires will do the Google thing and work around what I find.
Cheers

See if you can get into the Waterkloof restaurant. A mate of mine was involved until last year and if you are into great wine and fine dining its a must.

here is the site

I think April is Whale season as well? The general consensus is drive up the garden route on the coast road and back through the wine country stopping as you go.

Personally I would get a driver to allow for the tasting sessions with freedom of the need to drive.
