Thinking back to when i was a boy my dads shop used to be right close to the movie theater. after threading pipes for the weeks needs i would go to the movie and see all of the tarzan movies as matinees. i am trying to find them now but my firestick directs me to pay to rent or buy them. Anyone know where they can be found for free.

Thanks,

Lots of nice double rifles in most of them.
And, Jane swims nude in one!
(actually an Olympic swimmer as her double).

Hope you don't know any Swahili, BigBBear.

Heard about a "Tarzan" kind of movie playing in Nairobi, and when the spear guy hastens to bow before his king, bringing a serious message, the Kenyans burst out laughing. What he actually said in Swahili was something like, "Ten years I've been acting, and all they'll give me is this cheesy stuff!"

Johnny Weismueller played Tarzan in many of the older Tarzan movies. Johnny was an Olympic swimmer of some note. If you look at the freestyle times he swam, a 15 year old Katie Ledecky would obliterate him in the pool. There was always a scene where a native in a dugout canoe would get knocked into a river and eaten by crocodiles. My brother used to do a great imitation of the native- a high pitched scream broken up in a rapid succession of little screams.

As a side note, Johnny learned to swim at a YMCA pool in Chicago that was located 200 yards from my condo. It was torn down years ago and has been replaced by a very upscale shopping plaza called New City Mall.

Johnny was one of the first swimmers to go under 5:00 minutes in the 400 Meter Freestyle. Katie’s record is 3:58, so she would lap him and then some.

Weismuller was in movies 80+ years ago. Like any other thing like swimming, people get better, etc. My dad raced horse (sulky type) and his one good horse was winning races in 2:10 for the mile, by the tine dad got out of racing, 2:10 wouldn't even qualify to race. The black guy who represented the US in the Olympics in Germany, said "kids" in HS today, beating my times. Will look and see if we can find any Tarzan movies for free.

I liked the old black and white Johnny Weissmuller movies. The best. As kids, we and all of the neighborhood kids, would surround the black and white tv and sit spellbound during them. Same with Abbott and Costello's or the Three Stooges', black and white movies. Fun times. Good memories.

I got to meet Weismuller in the mid-60s + still have his autographed picture. When Cheeta got cranky + vicious in his old age, Maureen O'Sullivan was the only person he would let near.

I read all of the Tarzan books as a kid. Edgar Rice Burroughs. There were more than thirty of them. The first was written in 1912.

I loved the books, although they’d be viewed as racist these days. Old Edgar was rougher on the blacks and Arabs than he was on the Europeans, although they got their share, too.

After the books, the movies were a total letdown. The best thing about the movies was Johnny Weissmuller’s unbelievable Tarzan yell. It was bloody perfect.
