Due to the rainy weather this weekend I decided to clean out some of my basement. Came across some old magazine and safari brochures. Found an Atcheson's Hunt Catologue for 2000-2001. I couldnt help but notice the prices for Tanzania Safaris quoted at $1500 per day daily rate. Same as today. Air Charters same as today. However the huge differential was trophy fees in 2001 Tanzania was getting $600 for first buffalo, $720 for second, Lion $2,000 and Leopard $2000. My 2005 fee schedule looks like $1200 for first buff, $1500 for second, lion $4500 and leopard $3950!!! Seems like the outfitters are holding a pretty tight line on the their price increases, while the government knows how to do a price increase or two!!! Tanzania is with out question the best safari destination, unfortunately the govt. seems to know it. FYI. Found it interesting. Hugh

Tanzanian trophy fees have gone up but costs from one company to another vary quite a bit. Alot of that has to do with how much they plow back into anti-poaching, roads etc. Nothing over there is getting cheaper. One operator notified me that lion daily fees are going up 25% in one jump soon and that is in Zim. I guess if you have 100% shooting opportunity in Zim you can charge a premium. Mark MARK H. Those 2001 trophy fees look like the official Tanz gov't fee. I don't think the gov't fees have gone up much (??)
