A ph friend recently completed a hunt in Moyowosi. In between all the hunting, they did a bit of fishing on the side. Two of their catches...... CATFISH TIGER FISH

hey ! nice fish! I was on the Zambesi River this past June, couldn't wait to get into the Tiger fishing. Had a chance to do a 1/2 day trip before the safari but desided to save my money for the safari. Hell we were camped right on the Zambesi I'd get a chance during the hunt. As it turns out we hunted hard right up until the last light of the last day, took a elephant on the last day, so my tiger fishing would have to wait till next year. You know what? Next year I'm going to pay for that half day trip! seeing your tiger fish makes me want one that much more!!!

Bwanamich, Both are very nice fish! And they validate the reluctance I've had to go skinny-dipping in african lakes! Looking at those Tigerfish teeth, I have no doubt that they'd be tempted by a bit of "boerewors" dangling like bait in front of them! The Catfish reminds me of a story my uncle told me a few years ago. He lives in Trinidad, next to Venezuela, and on occasion goes far far up the Orinoco river with his girlfriend to explore a bit. They do this with a rather large, flat hulled fishing boat for a few weeks at a time. While stopping at an indian village far up the river once, he felt the time had come to take a crap, and asked the villagers where he could do so, so he didn't have to go back to the boat. The villagers pointed to a long, rickety looking wooden pier, with a horisontal small log held up to squat down over at the end. All waste went of course straight into the slowly flowing river. The pier was about 2 meters high up from the water, and having no other options he balanced his way out to the end, and squated down to do his business. With all the villagers looking on. He figured it was the facination of seeing this white guys pale behind shining in the sun, as it was most likely something they hadn't seen many times before! At the moment of truth, as a certain bodily function ejected last nights dinner down towards the water, he looked down, and watched in horror as a HUGE Catfish jumped straight out of the water up towards his dangling "equipment" and snapped up the poop only about a foot away from his bum! He was positive that he was closer than ever before to becoming a eunuch! All the villagers were laughing hysterically, as they of course knew that the Catfish would jump up out of the water and litterally scare the shit out of him! And no wonder it was huge, since it lived right there, and was "fed" by the whole village day in and day out... He didn't eat Catfish for quite some time after that, and never again near villages! I caught a nice catfish on a river in the Selous; can't remember the name of the river. Starts with an "R" I think.

Bwana, Unfortunately most of us can't spare enough time or money to tack a fishing trip onto our hunts but there is some marvelous fishing near many of the hunting areas. In 2000 we took the extra time and spent (it was free) 5 days on the Zambesi after our hunt in Zambia. The fishing was great but the experience of beig able to just unwind for a few days after the lion hunt was truly wonderful. The Mopata gorge on the Zambesi is well worth a couple of days by itself.
