I have a question about the Zebra taken by jorge 400 pictured in the AR plainsgame gallery. It is the picture 7th from the last. I don't recall ever seeing a Zebra with markings like that and wanted to see if someone could explain. Link; https://forums.accuratereloading.com/groupee_files/photo...183BD17373FEE181.jpg

That's a Hartmann's or mountain zebra. Found in Namibia. Has a nifty little dewlap too. Very beautiful. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

If I recall correctly, it was tasty on the grill as well. My mountain zebra was a scarred-up old warrior, but good eating nonetheless. (Don't really have a shot that shows the patterns as well, but hopefully a rug in six months or a year!) ------------------------------- Some Pictures from Namibia Some Pictures from Zimbabwe An Elephant Story

My Mtn. zebra didn't have quite that cool of a pattern but still had the typical herring bone orientation down the back. Kyler

You guys are right and they sure are damn good eating, cooked right on the grill like a beef steak. If I was sure a horse tasted like the mountain zebra, I might shoot a couple of mine as a matter of fact. A shot not taken is always a miss

jstevens - Horse was common fair in Western Europe (I don't know about now) and I ate my fair share during WWII. Horsemeat was the only thing not rationed then. "I ask, sir, what is the Militia? Having taken a couple of Burchell's I am looking forward to taking a Hartmann's in the future. What a beautiful animal!

They do have great markings. I love the color around the muzzle. I covered many miles for mine. It was one of my favorite hunts.

Bulldog, I've been away for a few days but I see you got your question answered. That was my first African animal taken. The mountain zebra certainly has some beautiful markings. I have always liked the markings on top of the rump. Mine is not as prominent as the other photos posted here. I'm having a pedistal mount and the backskin tanned. I'll have my eyes out for another one for a rug on my next trip. "...Africa. I love it, and there is no reason for me to explore why.
