I never experienced problems with Emirates, but here we are. Coming Wednesday I‘m flying with Emirates from Cape Town via Dubai to Zuerich. I want to take my Krieghoff double along, the South African Police (SAPS) provided me wit a Temporary Firearm Export Permit.

My South African gun license expired around two months ago. For renewal I applied in November '21 already. With that application for renewal the license is still valid. Otherwise I wouldn‘t have received a SAPS export permit.

EMIRATES won‘t let me fly, they don‘t understand that my license ist still valid although expired. Quite a complicated story.

A very short while ago I flew from Cape Town to Bulawayo - with the same rifle, license expired, Temporary Firearm Export Permit with me. All they wanted to see was my Temporary Export Permit.

I presented an invitation letter, furthermore that rifle is registered in Germany as well. Of course in my application I included the German firearm license.

Emirates seems to be quite inexperienced when it comes to weapons in transit. Unless Emirates won‘t let me take my double barrel along, I won‘t fly Emirates ever again.

Flown Emirates with firearms on several occasions, no problems in Dubai or DFW, gate agents in Joburg pretty much clueless regarding firearms. They had to contact Group Security on one trip in order to carry my firearm (even though I had the Emirates email approval). You might contact Emirates Gtoup Security to try and straighten it out.
