"Oh no!!!" i hear them say again and yes I know I will be opening a snake pit of opinions, expertise, and general harmless banter but hear goes(Hehe) Hopefully in june 07 my wife and I are off to Namibia (just waiting for confirmation of booking, ps thanks ElandSlayer)Now for this trip Im taking the newest member of my gun family 375 h&h. Between now and the trip I plan to do ALOT of shooting with this rifle from every conceivable angle & position, from sticks (if I can find any) at rabbits, hares, goats, deer, plastic milk bottles you name it I'm gonna 375 it! so pratice, flinch etc wont be the issue. My big question is what would be an all round Grain bullet to use? I was thinking a 260 or 270 interbond for the lot. Please dont get too involved in this just pratical answers is all I want I know over all else bullet placement is vitial and the key to an efficient kill no matter what you are shooting with what calibre. (Black Bear with 243 !! aye TOP PREDATOR). And yes I'm looking forward to Rabbit vs 375 War is inevitable, if idiots are in charge of countries

Last year I used the 260 grain Accubond, mainly took it for lion, and they worked excellent on everything. Dropped my lion in its tracks with no problem. They will work well on larger plains game, but I would not use it on the smaller animals, they will do alot of damage to their capes.

I used 270 gr Fail Safes on plains game in 2004, and it killed Impala, Zebra, Blesbuck, Blue and Black Wildebeest, and Kudu graveyard dead without a lot of hide damage. I have used the same bullet at home in Georgia and whitetails and wild hogs.

300 grain Trophy Bonded bullets was what I used in Namibia some years ago. They worked perfectly on everything from Eland down to Dikdik. A bonded 270 would have been just as fine for plainsgame, and of course been a bit flatter shooting if that is needed (this depends on where in Namibia you will be hunting, as some hunting areas are very open, but many/most are not).

I agree - If smaller plains game are on the agenda, try a Barnes 270gr. or 300gr. TXS - much less in the hide damage dapartment. Those Accubonds will bring them down though. Enjoy your hunt. Lance Lance Larson Studio lancelarsonstudio.com

If I was going to use the 375 H&H for plains game I'd sure be using the bonded bullets from 250 to 270 grains like you're planning /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I used a 375 with 270 grain Trophy Bonded Bullets in 02. I shot Livingstone Eland(1600lbs), zebra, waterbuck, kudu, wildebeest, nyala, warthog and bushpig. I only got exit wounds on the last three. Nothing was shot at more than 80 yards. The PH suggested going with 300 grains for next time as you would probably get an exit wound. That being said, nothing ran more than 100 yards and all were one shot kills with the exception of the eland. He was dead on the first shot, but failed to realize it and I had to convince him with a second round through the heart. I shot most of the animals in the onside shoulder no matter the angle to break bone and put the animal down. It didn't work, despite devestating bone breakage, nothing went down in its tracks which surprised me. The only animal that I shot over there that fell at the shot was an impala with a 300winmag. He looked as though he was stuck by lighting at a shot of about 125 yards. Hugh Pro Staff for: In Natures Image Taxidermy

For plains game I like the Swift 250gr A-frame. Have shot all kinds of stff from klipspringer to zebra with it, works great. Use 72gr of IMR4064 for 2700 ft/s. Good hunting; Brett

RUNAS I think if you load the 270 TSX your 375 it will easily do anything you require of it. Mark MARK H. My "plains game" load for my .375 H&H is a Speer 235 over 70 gns. IMR 3031. FABULOUS performance on everything from Jackals to Eland. Hope this helps... Cheers, Don

If Win Supreme 270gr Failsafes shoot OK in your rifle I'd go with them after excellent performance on two African trips so far.

Don, What was your weight retention on the 235 Grain Speers, I have found that they don't have that great of weight retention in Geliten and Phone Books, how was it on animals? (I know you had fabulous performance, I was really just interested in weight retention) The 235 Grainers are my fun shooting load out of the .375 and I prob have about a 1000 of them sitting on my shelf. They sure are fun to shoot. Thanks, I would go Accubonds with the .375, they make a big hole, but I am up to 11 consecutive one shot kills with them, (Thats on plains game and deer) Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent. DRSS .470 & .500

Here's another vote for "unleaded". I'd go with the .270 TSX from Barnes. "If you can get closer, get closer. If you can get steadier, get steadier."

SierraBravo, I was able to recover only one spent bullet of the Speer 235's I mentioned. I still have it, and when I find it again...I'll get you the weight. I took A Zebra with this one at 100-125 yds. Shot through the shoulders,we recovered the bullet from just under the hide of the opposite shoulder. It was actually pushing the skin out from underneath, and as such was quite noticeable. The slug is such a classic mushroom, I considered sending it to Speer for use in their advertisements. I have mic'd and weighted it, but hesitate quoting numbers from memory. I'll find that slug, and shoot the real numbers to you. Cheers, Don

Here's another vote for the solid copper Barnes X 270 grain. I aimed for the shoulder on lots of Namibian plains game, from steenbok to kudu and warthog. They all dropped in their tracks. All were pass throughs, so beware of what's on the far side if you use them. The same goes for Fail Safes. FYI, you can buy discontinued .375 X flat base 270 grain directly from Barnes for $32.67 a box...about $10 a box cheaper than the Tripleshocks.
