Anyone have experiences or opinions good or bad on the Sako .375 in either the Safari or Kodiak model? Was thinking about getting a .375 H&H for this year's hunt, but don't know much about them. Just wanted to know what you guys think...

I bought a Sako 75 Deluxe a few years ago and love it. I don't know how much difference there would be between that and the Safari and Kodiac you mention. I've used mine on buffalo mainly. It's a great looking gun, smooth functioning, doesn't kick as hard as I anticipated when I got it, it's no big deal to carry. I don't have any regrets, other than there aren't enough big stuff in the world to allow me to hunt with it as much as I would like. I think it is great value for the money.

I am going to book a moose hunt in Alaska just so I can hunt again with the Sako .375 H&H.

I have a Sako AV 375 that has been to Africa 6 times. I use it for plains game and leopard and my wife has used it for buffalo. Great rifle, very accurate and shoots 300 grain TBBC and TBSH to more or less same point of aim.

about 30 years ago I horsetraded into one of the little mannlicher stocked carbines with a 20" barrel in .375 H&H. Weighed about seven pounds with a Leupold scope on it, and had been magna-ported.
It was about as much fun as going ten rounds with Mike Tyson. Even if you didn't get your ear bitten off it would not be any fun.

Nice rifle if you can get a deal on it.

My only objection to the rifle shown is the front sling attachment. I just don't like them messing up the "line" of the barrel. My Sako 75 has it where it belongs, on the front end of the stock. (Personal taste.)

Safari only in .375 H&H - Kodiak in .338 Win and .375 H&H - the other versions of the rifle (synthetic stainless, etc) come in .300 Win Mag but not H&H.

I had a SAKO 375 H&H Handy rifle with the McMillian synthentic stock.

It worked fine. My brother has it now, i replaced it with a Blaser R 93.

The R 93 is the best hunting bolt rifle I have ever used.

I have/had Sako AVs in 338, 375 H&H and 416 Rems. Most all were Fiberclasses that wore the McMillan stock. To me there are the best bang for the buck. Sure one can buy more expensive rifles, but Sako definitely provides a good quality/cost ratio. Lou

Can't say if it's a Safari model, but a local dealer had a Sako 85 (no iron sights) for $1600 new.

That rifle had the nicest feel to it - slim and slender and it felt like it was a hair under 8# naked. I may yet go back and put money on one... Push feed though.

Regards,

Robert

Grabbed one when I could, and never let it go.

Rich The Buff Killer,
I had one that wasn’t magna-ported. Yes I know of what you speak. The people who claim that they want a light for caliber rifle should shoot a few rounds through one of these.
Kensco,
Yes Personal taste. Having the sling swivel out on the barrel allows the rifle to ride lower when you have it over your shoulder in thick cover and keeps it from chewing on your hand under recoil.
