Poachers brandish SMG in the wild By Happy Lazaro From The Arusha Times Police on January 28 arrested two suspected poachers at Matala village 60 kilometres south of Mang’ola along the eastern shores of Lake Eyasi in Karatu district. According to the Acting Arusha Regional Police Commander Robert Boaz, the two – Kiteng Kweku (60) who was in possession of a sub machine gun (SMG) with 64 rounds of ammunition and Shija Kingi with a rifle numbered H 08883 with six rounds of ammunition -- were traced after a tip off from the wananchi. The two had no legal ownership permits for the arms and ammunition. They are said to had been poaching in Ngorongoro Conservation Area but had run south-wards on suspecting the possibility of arrest. Kweku’s gun and ammunition were hidden in his wife’s house and RPC Boaz named the wife as Titi Endamurunyu (25). Kingi claimed to had inherited his gun from his late grandfather.
