Years ago following a recommendation on this forum, I bought the "Death by Double Rifle" DVD, and subsequently bought all of Marks DVDs. I enjoyed them, and my son grew up watching them. It fueled an interest in hunting when my son was quite young, and he still has an interest in African hunting / classic calibers / double rifles that started from watching those DVDs.

Just wondered what happened to Mark as he seems to have gone from a fairly successful content creator to completely off the radar in the last 5 or so years.

I believe that you are looking for Mark Sullivan.

Warning: He is a rather controversial figure around these parts.

No. Just to be clear, I am asking about Mark Buchanan and his DVDs produced under the name "Big Bore Productions". Definitely a whole different "Mark".

No, they are unrelated.

10 or so years back, Mark was a pretty high profile guy in African hunting circles due to some of the custom rifles he had made up, and of course his videos. I lifted the below from the Russell Moccasin web site:

"Mark graduated with a degree in finance from the University of San Diego and has worked in the banking industry ever since. He is an avid hunter, whether it is dangerous game in Africa, bird hunting in Mexico or prairie dogs in South Dakota. He enjoys hunting anytime, anyplace and anything. His passion for hunting began at an early age, and has continued to grow and evolve, as does his penchant for exploring. Mark quickly realized that traveling to remote hunting locations and meeting the local people add an important and unforgettable layer to the adventure.

Like many hunters, Mark was initially drawn to Africa by the writings of Capstick, Ruark and Hemminway. Later it was John Pondoro Taylor's book "African Rifles and Cartridges" that fuelded Mark's passion to not only hunt Africa, but to do so with classic African calibers and custom built rifles.

Mark is not a celebrity, not an outfitter, or firearm's expert, he's just a guy who simply enjoys hunting, shooting and the outdoors. Besides rifles, he has taught himself the art of photography and enjoys shooting with his camera as much as his rifles.

It was this combination that inspired Mark to venture into video productions. He created Big Bore Productions with the intent to fill a video niche for hunters who share his passion for hunting adventures combined with classic firearms and cartridges."

“Death by Double Rifle” was great. I didn’t realize he had done more.

I don't believe Mark is still going hunting in Africa, or at least not doing any more such videos. They are well done and I enjoyed all of them. I understand he ran into some life changes and has changed his focus a bit. Still a really good fellow and still very much interested in shooting and firearms, according to what I heard.

Mark isn’t doing videos anymore. I was down in La Paz fishing with him last year. He is mostly fishing and drinking beer. We usually meet up once a year for a Super Bowl party down south in Baja.

Well.. Hard to argue with that... Fishing and Drinking Beer - where do I sign up :-)

Thanks for the updates. I guess I was expecting something more dramatic than he couldn't be bothered anymore. But I am glad he is doing well and hope he is happy.

Death by Double Rifle is the best hunting video I have ever seen.

Very well done. No BS hype. Great clips and great rifles.

Mark is still around and is a good friend of mine. I don't know what trips he has done lately but i was just at his condo in Los Cabos last spring so i know he is around and good. he has done many other videos and one of my favorites was the hog hunting from a helicopter.

Seams I bought bought a double from him back maybe 5 years ago. Said he had not been to Africa for a while. Sounded like he just had other interests. I think it was a Marcel Thys but cant remember for sure.
