Gentleman: I picked up a pair of Swarovski field glasses for my friend and P.H. in S.A. and was wondering what would be the best way to ship them to him. US mail,UPS, etc. Thank You Paul K.

Paul, With the state of the post in RSA I would not trust mailing them. Plus he may be required to pay a tax on them too. Do you know any body going over who would be able to hand deliver them for you? Regards, Pete

Pete I do not know of anyone going to RSA this year. I have sent a couple of parsels to him via US Mail but it took 3 weeks to get there.None of them were of this value and I am concerned about something of this value bouncing around the world for 3 weeks. Paul K.

You might check over in the Africa Travel forum and see if you see anyone from your area heading in that direction. I've found most folks here at AR are willing to help. Just an idea! Shannon

I'm leaving for Joburg in a week. If he, or a friend of his can meet me in Joburg I would be glad to bring them over for you. Don't mail them ever. You may as well throw them away if you do. I have mailed quite a lot of stuff back and forth amd many items have vanished over the years. Those glasses are much to valuable to consider the mail system over there! I'm leaving the airport the moment I arrive and will be driving 4 hours north so it's gotta be when I arrive. Send me an Email I'm glad to help if I can.

Items can be shipped and you can pay the VAT on this end and he will not have to pay anything if its like I was last year, I shipped a Cowboy hat to a PH buddy of mine. I can't remember if I sent it UPS, Fedx or what, but if I remember correctly I was told to not send it ground, it didnt take but about a week or so to get to Pretoria.
