A Visit To Al MAHA Wildlife Resort In The Desert
Here a few photos I have taken in Al MAHA DWESERT RESORT, in Dubai.

It is about 100 kilometers from the city of Dubai, built in the middle of the desert.

It is a preserve for several types of animals, but mainly the Arabian Oryx - hence its name, AL MAHA. The name of the Arabian Oryx is AL MAHA in Arabic.

Water is pumped from under ground wells, roughly 100-120 feet down.

I have a few video clips too, which I will post later on.

Just thought you might enjoy these photos.

The Oryx are really beautiful animals. What type of gazelle is that, is it a Spekes (sp)??

That is an interesting brand on that one camels upper right hind leg, is it a form of brand?

Did you go up in one of the balloons.

Really great pictures, Thanks for sharing.

Even the rocks don't last forever.

This is the Arabian gazelle, and yes, the mark on the camel is a brand.

Thanks for the pictures!

I've never seen that Oryx before. Beautiful black & white.

Looks like a nice place to visit. Pool and everything, in the middle of a desert.

Nice photography too!

Some great imagery there. Considering the vastness of these deserts I am surprised there are not more reserves such as these?

There were bigger reserves, however they got poached out for private collegctions.
I heard some of the Sheikhs paid up to USD 100 000 per Oryx at one point.

I spent two weeks in Central Oman filming the biggest preserve but the guards there were carrying G3's and were working on a shoot on sight order for anyone found driving there at night.

To say that the desert is vast and beautiful is an understatement. It truly is an amazing place to be.

The reserve is the Al Wusta wildlife reserve in Jiddat Al Harasis
The Harassis tribe have sworn themselves to the Sultan to protect the Oryx and are the only people who live in the area.
If you make it there, I suggest you make a plan to see it.

Magic place

No hunting is allowed on this reservation.

It is just a desert resort.

I thought the same thing, as recently I have seen hunts offered for arabian oryx, arabian mountain gazelle and sand gazelle in the Emirates desert.

On the other note, very nice pictures! What a beautiful place.

Beautiful.
Wonderful pictures as one would expect from you.

Looking out across the distance, one has to wonder, over time will dunes win over vegetation, or vegetation over dunes.

Beautiful.

What kind of lizards are those and how big are they?
Two look like they're several feet long. Amazing they get enough to eat to fatten up on out there.

Thanks for sharing your ventures with us.
