Obituary: Mark Hampton

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Mark Hampton. Mark suffered a heart attack while on a hunting trip in Tanzania on Sunday morning, June 23.

Mark was a Life Member of Safari Club International, where he served with distinction as Record Book Committee Co-Chairman, Asia Subchair, and Record Book Handgun Consultant. His contributions to the organization and the hunting community were invaluable.

Mark's dedication, leadership, mentorship, and selflessness will be greatly missed. We ask that you keep Mark’s wife, Karen, in your prayers during this most difficult time. More information regarding services will be forthcoming.

Mark Hampton's legacy of dedication and passion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

That’s a shame, but I can certainly think of worse ways of dying.

Hopefully he’s enjoying the happy hunting grounds now.

Mark hunted everywhere. He was active in Grand Slam Ovis as well as SCI. He is a good guy. We are less because he is gone.

I hope he had a moment of clarity as the light faded out and died with a smile on his face.

Good grief...I am shocked. Mark's passing is a big loss to the hunting community and he will be missed by many.

RIP Mark, I always enjoyed our conversations. Condolences to your wife.

Sad! It would seem though that he had a great life and one to be envied if you are hunter.

He called me a couple of times but we never could get everything coordinated. Always seemed like a great guy.

Mark

Man I hate to hear this. Mark was a super nice, down to earth gentleman. He and I seemed to follow each other around on adventures and it became a running joke between us. He was much too young; however, like others have posted he passed doing what he loved and many of us wish we could be carried out on our shield as well.

At one of the SCI Reno shows some years ago I recognised him at a booth selling SCI merchandise. I said hello and that I enjoyed his hunting stories in the SCI magazine, and that I was jealous of all the big hunts he had done. He simply modestly agreed he was a lucky guy. It was a pleasant conversation for a couple of minutes. Then he had to rush away to seal a deal somewhere on another hunt.
A nice guy. RIP.

I’d bet 99% of us on AR would be considered “lucky guys”. I was fortunate enough to talk to him about hunting with handguns a few years ago, very pleasant gentleman. I, for one, will miss his hunt stories. RIP and condolences to his family.

May he rest in peace. For the rest of us, we should be so fortunate to pass while on safari.
