Seems like I remember years ago that ammunition manufacturers reported performance as penetration into number of inch-thick pine boards. Maybe it was just for pistol ammo. Think I saw it in old reproduced Sears catalogs.

Does anyone else remember this ?

Is there anywhere (corporate or private) a comprehensive comparison of ammo performance other than velocity, energy, and other calculated numbers ? Something like penetration in a standard...
