Supposedly 120lbs I am skeptical picture at the link http://www.gunwatch.blogspot.c...ephant-taken-in.html This magnificent bull elephant was taken in a successful, legal hunt in Zimbabwe. The elephant had never been seen before, and likely would have died with no one knowing of its existence if the hunt had not taken place. From telegraph.co.uk: Mystery surrounded the identity of the elephant, which was estimated to have been between 40 and 60 years old, but had never been seen before in Zimbabwe’s southern Gonarezhou National Park. But its tusks, which touch the ground in a photograph taken moments after its shooting, confirmed its exceptional nature, weighing an estimated 120lb each.

This was also my first thought when viewing the pic for the first time. 120# seems excessive to me, but depending upon the size of the nerve, anything is possible. The girth at the lip is certainly large and the taper is not dramatic but, to me, the length is not there. The 120# statement is apparently only an estimate as the tusks need to be removed, the nerve extracted and a 30 day drying of the ivory is necessary prior to an official weighing taking place on a certified scale. I do not claim to be an expert on Ele ivory, however. Nor am I trying to denigrate an outstanding trophy, regardless of the official weight of the ivory. A great Ele, to be sure! Those scales are not the most accurate. The tusks will lose weight as they dry. It seems well over 100 to me. Given the scales do not be surprised if it comes up to less than 122.
