Also wonder if I should have 3 tags for each animal ie: skull, hide and horns?

AR MAN

I always order 3 tags for each animal from my taxidermist before going on my safari. He prints the tags with all pertinent info.

Assuming you've decided on a taxidermist beforehand, he'll almost certainly be happy to send a roll of labels either to your home, outfitter or PH that have spaces for all relevant info.

Most use a plasticish paper that can be completed with an ordinary ballpoint pen & won't burn, fade, tear or run & will be considerably tougher than anything you can make.

Then all you do is attach them with ladder straps.

Port of entry...good one! Just sent off email to Taxidermist so maybe this is something he provides. Its still good to know everything that needs to be present in the event he was to miss something. Human error eh.

Thanks all!

Suggest you don't put port of entry..... The tag will have your name & address & the shipping agent will choose the most convenient & cost effective PoE at the time of shipping.

Most countries (notably the US esp) have different charges for different PoE....... I'm not sure if it's the same for Canada but wouldn't be in the least surprised if it were.

Ok, thanks for the info. Any Canadians that can offer their real life experiences or advice would be welcomed. Would like to have trophies shipped to Calgary or Edmonton.

Thanks guys!

With me trophies are transported to the taxidermist/exporter at the end of your safari. Dry or not. If the latter then they are professionally taken care of by my exporter. Therefore the export is done without delay.

The laminated tag needs your name on it at the most and is immediately replace with a metal tag and code number.

All relevant trophy and export details are written in a trophy export book which is signed by you and I. The individual trophy tag is therefore for immediate identification only.

Further export details are described in correspondence between you and the exporter.

That is how we do it it in Zambia and we are in the forefront of timely trophy exports.

There are other factors to consider & some at least might depend on where (both African country & airport) you ship FROM & which airports the consignment passes THROUGH on it's way to you.

For example the veterinary inspectors at Heathrow are an absolute bunch of bastards who won't hesitate to give you the option of incineration or return to airport of origin (at your cost) if paperwork isn't up to scratch (includes smudged date or other stamps etc) or they were not given the full 24 hours notice of arrival etc.

A really good taxidermist & shipping agent can be worth their respective weights in gold.

Your taxidermist guy should give you the tags and also tell you where they will come into country thru.

Take electrical ties to fasten tags (take extra ties)

Thank you gentleman for your contributions on this very important step. As one has already mentioned it takes only a smudge to make things become very unpleasant and something I wish not to deal with!

Thanks again!
