Anyone use GOPRO - got one as a XMAS present and want to see if it has any practical hunting use or exchange it for more ammo.

Thanks,

Mike

I'm interested too. I got a hat mount (geeky to the extreme) but haven't tried it yet. I figure I'll take it to the range and see how many water jugs in a line my 500 Jeffery can take out.

Regards,

Chuck

It's a fixed wide angle, you won't see any animals if your not mark Sullivan Wink

I have it with me now to Pakistan and it's great just to capture other things a defetnitly a must on a trip and now with 4k and 1080 in 120fps you can get great results.

Try to put it on the rifle when you are duck shooting and they come in low that will make great footage.

It is great for scenery and such.

But for general hunting it is useless.

We use them all the time at baits etc.

Also use the photo setting to take different angle photos of trophies.

Get the app for the Iphone or Ipad and learn how close you need to be for photos.

Also get an extender pole to get differnet angle photos like this

I took these while on game drives in the Kruger Park earlier this year when I took my daughter for her1 st visit

Have to agree that they were not really made for hunting. Stalked a Cape Bushbuck once in some long grass, only to bump into him feeding away from us, on the other side of a bush. I estimate he could not have been further than 5 yards away. Looking at the footage, he seemed 15 yards away. The HD quality is superb, but wide angled lens spoils it for hunting. There are better options should you want to use it for hunting.

Bringing mine to Burkina in a few weeks. I plan to clamp it to the truck somewhere for wide angle action shots and later edit them into my video.

I have one I use for crossbow hunting. Would never dream of using it on a rifle...even in zoom mode distance is a factor. I find it useless beyond about 20 yards. For practical hunting purposes, I would pass if I had to do it all over again.

I'm taking at least one GoPro next year, probably two. Good footage of the guys, the camp, the hunt, etc.

Sound is key. I want them for the sound.

Second, I'll tip the Gamescout to carry the goofy thing on his head.

I've never paid a videographer, never will.

great for up close shots when hunting. I have gotten pretty good video of animals mounted to my bow and muzzleloader. The new mount they make for the guns is solid and stands up to recoil. Have gotten some excellent footage on duck and goose hunts. Have attached it to the gun, the top of my head, the front of the blind and in the decoy spread.

The pole allows you to get some great shots from different views and don't forget it also takes pretty good up close photos. I have enjoyed using mine this season.

Very limited use, but also very cool to have for supplemental footage.

If you guys are really looking for an awesome camera to truly film hunts with, that is very practical and very good - look at Canon's XA-20 an XA-25 models. Reasonably priced, excellent capabilities, and easy to use. Just a thought!

i echo what aaron says - in production it provides some interesting secondary footage but don't expect any great wildlife stuff outside of leaving the camera on a game trail or next to a waterhole for super close stuff !
