I did some "scientific analysis" when in the Luangwa Valley of Zambia, which is a tsetse fly area, although not as bad as the Selous can be (based on my experience, and that of Peter who hunted there for years). As others have said repeatedly - the product ABSOLUTELY worked. I put a small amount on the sweet-spots (calves, back of arm, back of neck & ears) when entering the tsetse fly areas. This was enough to keep bites to a minimum and off these areas completely, and at least give me a swipe at them on the more exposed areas - while not getting too greasy. Note that the lotion is 30-SPF sunblock also. I get bit the worst when driving in the truck, when the little suckers hide under the dash and ambush when you are least expecting it. With ASSS on, they flew in, down, and back out again of the topless cab. It was entertaining to watch the others get bit for once, as usually I'm the target. I did not use it the first day, and got nailed on the back of my legs and triceps as usual. And as usual they swelled up nicely. I put some on the next morning, and from then on no problems. I still got bit through the shirt or sock occasionally, the forearm, etc., but was a good compromise for me. When walking and sweating, it does wear off, but it's not an all or nothing thing. Same would apply to any lotion, sunblock, etc. And the containers are small and highly concentrated, so you could carry it with you if so inclined, and you don't need a lot. I only used half a $10 tube (bought on sale for $5 as posted ~2 months back) in 16-days, and left it and another with the PH. It also kept away the small mopane flies if applied to the forehead and ears. We were getting swarmed after the first buffalo was down, and a dab of the goo ended it. Interestingly, it did not seem to deter the larger common flies which were a nuisance when tracking buf around some of the villages, or when close to the buffalo. At least not in the quantities I used. The only downside, as with sunblock I think, is that it does dissolve the bluing on a rifle when in contact for a period of time. On the barrel where I held it for over the shoulder carry, I lost some bluing. A bit of duct-tape would have prevented this. I didn't like the smell either... Of course, those that ride in the truck with the windows up and AC on, and who don't stray more then 100-yards from the truck won't need such a product . But for anybody else hunting in TF country who are prone to getting bit - I would highly recommend a tube or two. Lastly, I'd suggest the LOTION in the WHITE TUBE, over the sprays/pumps. SKIN-SO-SOFT Bug Guard PLUS IR3535 Insect Repellent LOTION Cheers!

Thanks Bill; Since I have fished in Alaska, I keep sticking with DEET 100% along with any sunblocker. DEET is not this sexy (ruined a shark-skinned wristwatch strap, under guaranty)be sure I'll smugle in this Avon sss. By the way, my first buying reflex would not have been towards Avon. Because of my job, do you know what is the acting molecule? jean b
