Mike I hunted Lemco and Chete with HHK in 2002 using Ivan Carter as my PH. I hunted for 14 days taking a leopard/buffalo/plainsgame. I highly recommend him. We never shot from the car and walked many a mile in our quest for buffalo. Ivan was easy going and a pleasure to be around. I actually spent 4 weeks with him as we did 2 weeks of photosafari with my wife and 2 other couple before Ivan and I left them to go hunting. Ron L

Dear All, Has anybody hunted (HHK, Zim) with any of the following PHs?? Wayne Edwards, George Hallamore, Steve Brewer These were names suggested to me. I'm looking for somebody who likes to get away from the car (a necessary evil), who sets high standards for what he will allow his clients to take, and who is easy to be around. Area would (probably) be Matetsi (Lemco as back-up) for Sable/Buff. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. PM is also fine if comments are not fit for public consumption. Thanks a bunch in advance. - mike

HHK is known for having some of the best PH's in the business. You just about wouldn't go wrong with any of them. I've heard very good things about HHK PH Gomez Adams, and have met others such as Ivan Carter, Richard Cooke, George Hallamore, and Bill Lemon. One of my good friends will be elephant hunting with Bill next week. I have hunted with Howard Hunter and would recommend him highly, especially if he is able to hunt next season. Howard was shot in the forearm by a client last July after a wounded buffalo charged him. The last I heard Howard was supposed to be recovered by the first of the year. You mentioned wanting a PH "who sets high standards for what he will allow his clients to take." Well, Howard would certainly meet that requirement. He's one of the few certified SCI scorers in Zimbabwe. And have no doubt that if you enjoy getting out and tracking buffalo all day, he'll be your guy. Howard probably knows Lemco as well as anyone as he managed the place a few years ago. He's also a super nice guy and a fun fellow to hunt with. We had a great hunt in Chirisa and Lemco with every animal I took making the SCI book expect for my impala, which was just short. My eland made the SCI Gold Record book. Here's a pic of Howard, along with his head tracker, Rafael.

I suggest John Sharp. He's a fantastic and courageous professional hunter; sets high standards for everything he sets his hand to; excellent work ethic; extremely ethical and hunts in the traditional manner -- mostly on foot. A very kindly, honest, sincere, and easy man to get along with. www.john-sharp-safaris.com AD

mho I hunted with Wayne Edwards this June for 21 days. See some of my previous posts for more detailed info, but the short story is I had a great hunt and great time and will hunt with Wayne again. I also spent some time with Wayne Williamson, and George Hallamore, and would not hesitate to hunt with them either. We had dinner one night with Billy Lemon and his client and they both seemed like good fellows. They left in the early AM looking for Buff and were back before noon with a nice one. Wayne is an agressive hunter, wear good shoes as you will be hunting on foot. Practice shooting offhand and kneeling quickly. Many times we would go "looking" for a particular animal, find him and chase him through the thick Jess until we could get a shot [all on foot]. My favorite way to hunt, and exciting. On the elephants we would stalk in really close, also VERY exciting. Be sure and get at least one cow elephant on your quota if they are available in your area. They are the most exciting of all the animals I hunted in ZIM. I also suggest you contact Ian Lewis of www.safarivideos.com and have him video your safari. He did mine and it is worth every penney. I will NEVER hunt Africa and not have the Safari videoed, and will try and get Ian to do it for me everytime. You can also see a couple of my animals in his web site, my initals are TB.

Guys, excellent feedback - I doubt there are many places one can get this quality information in literally no time. You are all positive on either some of the names that had been suggested, or suggest alternatives. Perfect. NE 450, after I posted, I found the time to do a search, and unearthed a couple of your posts about Wayne. No less than 2 hunts within a short period of time, eh? Seems like Africa got under your skin... I know how that feels, I'd go more often if time and funds were less restricted. Spring, your story about Howard Hunter being shot in the forearm by a client brings the risks of this profession into clear focus. A hard, intriguing but risky profession, I guess. Thanks for the link to John Sharp Safaris Allan, an option I had not considered yet. Also thanks to those who chose to mail information - much appreciated. - mike
