Forrest,

I can't remember the excess baggage weight limits, but I'd guess at around US$20 per kilo or more. My rifle and case weigh about 12 kgs in total........ That's US$240 each way in excess baggage. Confused

......... Now, I still hate the idea, but what was that I said about borrowing a rifle. Wink
Steve - it is a 50lb weight limit on all bags inside the US now - regardless if you have an International ticket or not. That was started October 2006 I believe. It used to be you could show your Int itinerary and they would let you through but not any more. They still allow 2 bags though...

Found that out the hard way - even to this day it is 80lb per bag between Aust and USA but as soon as you hit the US of A it changes....

Hi Matt,

Is that two bags of 50 lbs each or two bags of 50lbs in total? - If I remember correctly the UK & Europe allow two bags of 50 lbs (actually 20 odd Kgs) in total.

If you Aussies get 80lbs total weight, then you're lucky.

Internal flights within SA (or the ones I use) and flights SA - TZ etc allow a total weight of 20 odd Kgs, and they won't give any additional free allowance for rifles as they don't classify them as sporting goods like they do golf clubs etc. Which is a bit bloody ironic really as the term used to define firearms permitted to be transported is actually 'sporting firearms'
