Well, don't know about your wife's fashion tastes, but this is what I'm wearing in Zim, this summer. Comfortable, light weight, zero break in time, and not that expensive. They offer them in women's as well as men's sizes.

Are the soles on those soft enough to be quite when sneaking through the jess? I've always favored the original Clark's Desert boot because the soft gummy crepe sole allows you to be very quiet.

You just can't go wrong with Courteneys (either Safari or Selous). I've had great luck with Russells also but those aren't really off the shelf I guess.

Keen or Merrell make great walking shoe/boots. I wore a pair of Keens on my elephant hunt and am still wearing them 2 years later.
That was a good track to follow. Big Grin

My wife wore a pair of Merrells in Zambia. Great boots, not expensive, and she loved them.

It really doesnt matter what shoe, but take one with a hard thick sole so all the thorns stay out.

Give Russell Moccassin company a call. They are mostly a custom made shoe company (if you have 5 months to wait, can order a custom pair). They do have some styles, etc., on the shelf, and if you look at their site, russellmoccassin.com, I think it is, you can see the various styles, etc. I personally cannot wear these off the shelf shoes others are showing, as feel, to me, like they have rocks or marbles in the bottoms. For a few $ more you can have real quality, leather, etc., and will wear forever.

Personally, I go hunting to get away from my wife.

My wife has better legs than this but Saeed won't let me post a picture of her in her G string mate.

No matter where you go you will always find the "fun police".

There is something very enticing about knee length boots, a short skirt and preferably no knickers.

Once again, call me old fashioned if you like. beer

My late wife never made it to Africa but we put many miles in the desert of So Az after the elusive Gambels Quail. I should remark that my wife was 4'11" tall and had an exceeptionally small foot that shoe stores could rarely fit. She tried to buy salesmans samples where she could. She wore a pair of Irish Setter Birdshooters almost all the time as they were the only ones who made anything to fit her. She hunted in them for almost 20 years and they still look pretty good. Nothing fancy like today just plain good soft leather boots.

Those boots would come in handy for killing scorpions.

Andrew:

Some of us (like you and me) are blessed with our women.

As to the boots, Lou Hallamore constantly tells me that American boots are the sturdiest, but loudest, boots made. It seems that nylon type or heavy leather uppers and agressive soles make more noise than soft leathers and crepe soles, but the former give better support. Every boot has a trade off, I guess.

I just bought some Sperry high top boat shoes with soft leather uppers and soft soles. Maybe that'll get him off my back this year. Thorn proof... Nope! But neither are the sandals (below) that I wear on elephant hunts.

As for the ladies, I think the Sebagos Women's Beacon high top boat shoes are sturdy enough for Africa and the soles are soft enough to be quiet, too. They are made in women's sizes and cost about $100 or a bit more.

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

I wear sandals most of the time. Sometimes just a good cross trainer sport shoe. I also have some of those sneaker type hunting shoes that also are nice, they have quiet soles. Most are made for turkey hunting Stateside.

Check the New Balance 978 Country Walkers. I wore a mens' 978 in Zim last year and they were great. Quiet, acceptable support, and comfortable. Much better on long hikes than another, more expensive boot, also taken.
