Is 2006 the final year for these? Where do you expect prices to go next year if that is the case? I would think that female hunts may get cheap by the end of the year.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! Various press releases, along with the usual rumors and comments from people involved in the industry, have indicated that Lion hunting will probably be closed completely by June of 2006. This is said to include both the hunting of wild lion, as well as the shooting of canned or pen-raised lion. While no specific date has been set, June is said to be the month.

It is said that between 200 & 350 lions are "killed" each year in South Africa. Botswana's quota was severely reduced in 2005, and prices went as high as $130 000. When there are suddenly 200 -350 less lions availible to the market as a whole, a black rhino at $135 000, may start looking very cheap.

If you would like copies of the various press releases, send me a quick e-mail.

It's a real shame for those of us who have hunted free ranging lion in South Africa. We now realize that with the end of even the free ranging lion hunts that those hunters who would like to shoot a very good lion at a very reasonable price will no longer be able to do so. Looks like there is some time left, but not much. Glad now that I shot mine in June of this year with Brad. Mine was free ranging out of Kruger and onto a reserve bordering Kruger where the fences are down to allow movement of Kruger's animals back and forth, including lion, cape buffalo, rhino, elephant, etc. My free ranging lion ended up being #5 SCI all time with a 27" skull measurement.

I agree...it is not good to see any type of restrictions on hunting. Wonder where things will go from here?

Probably way over $100 000, and way out of reach of the average hunter.
