The answer may change depending on where you hunt. But, based on my experience in and around the Zambezi Valley, the best months are September and October. But they are warmer (Sept) or plain hotter (Oct) than other months. I don't mind the heat. JPK Free 500grains

rtep, I hunted late last year in Zimbabwe for Buffalo with www.cmsafaris.com, Myles and Buzz. We hunted north in the Makuti area, and saw lots of elephant. I would suggest Emailing them. A friend, Mike Jines did a control hunt for eight last year in June, you might PM him here and ask. Rich Buff Killer

rtep, No one has mentioned why one month is good relative to anohter. Conventional thinking is that later in the season surface water has mostly dried up and the bush is not as thick as leaves have droped. That helps you in two ways, 1) game will be consentrated around permenant water and 2) you can see better. If your priority is trophy buff then later is better, generally. That means September on. If you want excitment, go early for tuskless when the bush is still green and thick. It will probably be much harder to come up with a good buff, however. Early means April-May. BTW, problem control ele hunting usually happens when ele come to eat the ripe crops. This is generally April to ealy June. I've done both early for tuskless and late for buff and trophy ele. It's all fun!! Brett

rtep, As Brett said later is better in general and October may be the best. Some of the very best buffalo trophies in Zim are coming from the Save Valley Conservancy with an average of 40". I was there in Sept/Oct '07 and the conditions were perfect with limited water and great visibility. There are also a load of ele there including a quota of tuskless. Mark MARK H.
