Buffalo Horns For Knife Handles

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Horst has been making knives for a long time, mostly for his wife's kitchen!

Today I had lunch with him and his wife, and he showed me this knife he made for himself to take hunting.

The handle is made of buffalo horns.

I thought some of you might enjoy seeing these photos.

Very Nice. I'd like one exactly like that. Kindly ask Horst to start on it immediately!? Thanks.

In exchange, I'll ship him all the buffalo horn he wants! Wink

Put me on the waiting list, too! Wink Nice work.

I especially like that he used the "bark" and kept the texture of the outer surface of the horn. Much nicer than polished smooth, IMO.

Wow. That is one great looking knife. I agree with mrlexma about the texture.

Would it be thick enough to shape? And how would you shape it to carve a schnabel or rounded forend tip and keep the surface texture?

I had heard that buff horn has a tendency to crack if not kept well lubricated. Can anyone confirm or refute this as it is just a rumor I heard and have never owned anything with Buffalo horn components for any period of time.
