Tuffpak Standard Case Buy Back Offer For AR Members Only

This is a deal offered by Hunters Headquarters only and NOT BY THE FACTORY and it is for AR MEMBERS ONLY. It is this forum that really shows us support so you will be the guinea pig for this idea.
H.HQ. will buy back your old standard Tuffpak for $150. provided you purchase the same case new but with the TSA lock.
Some of you have been wishing for this case but with a TSA lock.
This offer is not good for any other case because the factory only offers the standard case and the new 1440 bow case with TSA locks.
The deal is...H.HQ. gets your old standard case which must be in good condition and with both keys for which we will pay $150 landed in Bedford, TX (in other words..you pay to ship it here). You must replace that case with a new standard case with TSA lock at the same time for $375 plus UPS ground shipping, insurance and adult signature required as proof of delivery charges also.
It does not mean there is a $150 discount for a first time buyer of a standard case with a TSA lock. If you are a first time buyer for a case with TSA lock then it is still $375 plus UPS shipping.
What is H. HQ. going to do with your old case? We are going to sell it to someone who wants a standard Tuffpak with the standard lock and does not care if it is new in box.
Hopefully we have explained ourselves in a clear manner. We don't want anyone to misunderstand the deal nor what we are going to do with your old case.
We have no idea if there is a market for used cases and if there is not...we will discontinue our offer quickly.
This offer starts Monday, Feb. 12 and will end Monday, Mar. 12.

Mimms,
Can you clarify the TSA rules for a standard lock Tuffpak? For example, if I check my gun through TSA on the way out or flying within the USA, are the standard locks OK? Am I in danger of having the TSA drill out/destroy my Tuffpak when re-entering the US? Are the standard locks no longer acceptable by the TSA at all?
Thanks!
Russ

That has happened in only one instance that I know of.

To my knowledge you are in NO DANGER with any case that does not have a TSA lock no matter the brand name on the case.
The Tuffpak is still available with the lock we have always used and is still the number one seller to date but then the new TSA lock has just become avaiable.
The regular lock outsold the TSA lock in Reno hands down. Lots of folks commented they wanted to be there when TSA did anything period. They expressed they do not trust TSA for a number of reasons.
Me personally, I am sticking with the old lock. It has served me well.
A number of folks in the past have complained that the Tuffpak owners did not pay attention to their needs / wants by not offering the TSA lock. The owners heard those comments and now offer both style locks.
At both Dallas and Reno conventions we made it a point to ask owners of Tuffpak for any ideas that would improve the case. The answers are 99.9% of owners that spoke to us are happy campers. The only problem we seem to running into now is a case for super long bbl. shotguns...those with 32", 34" and 36" bbls. Some folks are not willing to take the bbls. off their super long shotguns. At what point do we build a case where the airlines folks say, "That is it...too long." ?
The parent company of Tuffpak, which is Nalpak, has cases of all sizes that it sells to the TV and movie industry. The majority do not have wheels nor locks but they do have sizes not offered by the Tuffpak division. I reckon the movie and TV budgets are somewhat bigger than most of us going hunting so maybe oversize charges are no big deal...some investor just sucks those up I guess.

I am open Sat. but please call me at 817 267 3700 to make sure I am here. We have grand daughters that are involved in all sorts of stuff that requires our being there to root the team on! I also have ranches in west Texas which require me to be there for various reasons ...not to mention I just like going to the ranch and burning gunpowder on something! Smiler

Harry:

I think it is a great offer, but for thoses of us who cannot use the standard or bow case, I have had good luck using a light flexible bike lock wrapped tight around both sets of handles, and locking it with a TSA lock. Seems to have worked so far, and the G-men haven't complained.

Question for moderators:

A fellow posted about his experience purchasing another gun case and the thread was moved to Miscellaneous.

Another fellow posts a commercial ad trying to sell gun cases and the thread is not moved.

Why the difference?

There is a photo of the lock on my site www.huntersheadquarters.net.
If I knew how to post photos here I would copy and paste it here but...
Just click on the standard case info and you will see one.
Nothing fancy. Just the lock with a way to put the three combo lock thru it.

Harry,
Can someone just order the new lock and replace the old style lock? Will that work?
It might be easier than shipping the old case/swithc out etc.
thanks

Quickshot,
Here is the answer from Mr. Kaplan, owner of Tuffpak.
The raised ribs on the old lid will not accomodate the new lock.
All the new standard 1049 cases have a different raised rib pattern, which will accomodate the new TSA lock or the standard key lock.
If the new TSA configuration turns out to be very popular then the factory will spend the money to modify additional tools which cost approx. $1000 + each.
Now this is not from the factory but from me.
You can not just get a new top either as the Tuffpak is made as one pc. and then cut into. In some instances one top would interchange but it is not the norm. They are all just a bit different.
If you buy a new case with the TSA lock and do not like the TSA lock then you can install the standard key lock in its place...just not vice versa for the above reason already stated above.

Harry,

While the Tuffcase has never appealed to me for various reasons, I have to this is a very decent offer and top marks to the Owners for listening to, and responding positively to, their customers...

I'm not sure what the point is in buying what amounts to a $225 TSA lock that is not required nor needed.

$225 plus shipping both ways.

I'll stick with the original. If I have a problem, I'll just pull a "flakey Russell" and go to work on the lid with my nail clippers. Big Grin
