Elephant tramples ranger
28/02/2008 09:38 - (SA)

Johannesburg - A 46-year-old game ranger was trampled to death by an elephant, Mpumalanga police said on Wednesday.

Superintendent Abie Khoabane said two rangers at Manyaleti Game Lodge saw an irate elephant, and vultures in the sky. They went to investigate and the elephant charged them.

The rangers ran in different directions. One did not return and a search was launched for him.

The missing ranger was found dead on Tuesday near the place where the elephant charged.

An inquest docket has been opened.
