Gentlemen
What anyone thinks of leopard and plains game and buff in Coutada 9 for $ 28,000 all inclusive except getting there and dip and pack...
Friend of mine booked it at SCI. And asked me if it is good deal. I thought so.
Gajogo safari. They seem like no bullshitters and I have been good at recognizing that all my life. Of course I could be wrong.
The are Americans and just purchased it last year and have Zim PH.

What do you gents think?
Thank, Milan

Can't tell without the trophy fees, but the daily rate is very reasonable. IMHO

Honestly, it depends on how good the concession is now...

The price isn't bad; its great if by all inclusive you include the CITIES and trophy fees...

I hunted Coutada Nine four years ago. It could be one of the best plains game areas in all of Africa. It is unfenced and is around 400,000 acres if memory serves me correct.

Not sure about the leopard in the area however buffalo are very scarce on Coutada Nine.

The hunt was with Mokore Safaris (the Duckworths) whom I thought still are the operators. Perhaps Gajogo bought some quota.

If there are no trophy fees in addition and if there is game there, this was a steal.

I think he picked the wrong animals to hunt in Coutada 9. Great for kudu, eland, nyala, sable... Even lion and elephant. Again should have done more research.

Not a very good part of the country for leopards. Niassa is much better for leopards. For buff, sable, nyala, etc. it should be very good. May turn into a very expensive buff hunt, but maybe he will get lucky. I think leopards (maybe more than anything else) you need to pick a very good area, with a proven PH for leopards in that area. Otherwise you are really rolling the dice.

Tim is right on the mark.
I have hunted in mediocre leopard spots and have been in a Niassa.
I know which one produced a cat for me.

I would recommend he ask some very specific questions about the buffalo. I talked with Mokore (also hunt C 9) at DSC and they said they were not hunting buffalo there due to low numbers. Hopefully your buddy will be in an area of the concession that has some more buffalo.

There are no areas in C9 that have more buffalo. They are trying to get approval to bring buffalo in and restock the area but it has not happened yet. Maybe they run him down to the delta or over to Simon Rogers area.

Boarkiller,

You mate would do well to ask questions prior to booking a safari.

Hope he has a good one and look forward to a report.

Hi All
Just to clarify this issue, we have a couple different shareholders in C9, due to the sheer size ( 1 million acres ) of the area we split the area according to shareholding percentages from the start to maximise the efficiency of anti poaching , management and utilisation. Mokore being the largest shareholder in Coutada 9.
We all manage and hunt our own sections of Coutada 9, therefor Gajogo ,owned by an American operates his own camp , quota and block on the northern limit of C9. This operation has nothing to do with us and is entirely separate from Mokore Safaris.
Buffalo are on quota in C9 yet we are not hunting them as there is only one small breeding herd. If they find a lone dagga boy up north they can hunt this or the buffalo will be hunted in the Delta??
There are a few big tom leopard knocking around but few and far between.
Again this hunt offerered in Coutada 9 has nothing to do with Mokore Safaris or our hunting area in C9.

Never ceases to amaze me that a guy will spend $30K and then ask HIS BUDDY (who doesn't know either) if he got a good deal or not!

It remains to be seen if this is a good deal. But I do wish people would stop thinking that a low price = a good deal.

You get what you pay for, simple as that. There are no free lunches.

Neil,

Thank you very much for clarifying this.

Very helpful to those who wish to make a proper decision on a hunt.
