Yesterday I visited my taxidermist to determine the position of 8 mounts and a Zebra skin rug and am disapointed in a couple things but don't know who is responsible. First, a Gemsbok backskin, the only backskin I kept, is not mine. I know this because I had shot it in the ass as it was escaping and this backskin does not have a hole where my pics show a hole. Secondly, my Zebra skin is VERY brown between the black stripes and my memory and my pics do not show it to be this way. I will take some photos back to the taxi and compare stripe patterns but what is one to do if it is not my hide? Anybody have these experiences and what, if anything, can one do about them?

Dennis I'll wager the fault lies with whoever did the dipping and packing. Not much you can do about it.

Those darn Burchells will turn brown between the stripes, to one degree or another. It probably is your Zebra, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to compare the fingerprints. Maybe you should go shoot one of those Tanzania Zebras!

Wendell, I plan to next year! You want to come along?

Don't make idle threats as I have been known to accompany people to Africa. With or without an invitation. That said, I have been considering it as my Buffalo gun has been very lonely this last year, not much promise for action on the horizon either as I see no reason to take it to New Zealand next month or Mule Deer hunting in November. After all, I did spend the money on the gun, so I should use it right?

I'd be happy you have you along. Hell, we could even share the trophy shipping fees.

I have been seriously considering it. I won't know for a few months what the future holds, but it is certainly on my list of places to hunt.
