I don't know who Burchell's has been represented by in the past or who else represents them but Adam just spent a week looking over their facilities. He was impressed and thinks they will provide a good value for the dollar.

No mention if it's comfortable? See how fit you are after an 8 hour ride in the back seat of a Toyota Hi-lux with your hunting partner. If I had it to do over again, I'd ask that I be hog-tied in a burlap sack and strapped down in the bed with the luggage. It would have made for a more enjoyable experience!!!

Where in northern Namibia, Mark? Is it close enough to Katima Mulilo to fly into that airport?

Dog handler is normally a private contractor with this own staff and a pack of very expensive dogs.

Folks,

Bill is right. In Zim if we use dogs it is a $3000 add-on plus regular daily fee etc. Adam thinks the ranch is about 3 hours from Windhoek but will get an exact travel time from Barry Burchells.

I'm off for Cameroon in about an hour so if you have other inquiries about this hunt contact Adam. He is in the office today.

Name of the camp is Trudia. I hunted there with Barry's father, Fred, who also owns the property. Die Ou Jagter hunted there also. Too far from the Caprivi strip to use that airport.

If I have been somewhere, I know how long it takes to get there. Roll Eyes

As usual, it would pay to spend some time checking out the competition.

From looking at the map provided I would estimate aboute a 5 hour trip from Windhoek.I hunted about an hour east of Grootfontein and it was a six hour trip.

We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!

JBoutfishn, Let start off by saying that I have not yet personally been to either of these ranches, and was in South Africa visiting Barry Burchell and not in Namibia. I will however be doing one of these Leopard hunts myself this year as well and will visit both ranches. I have no hesitation in offering these hunts to my clients from what I have seen and from getting all the details from Barry. I can assure anyone who does boook a hunt with us in Namibia that you will have a great time.

For those of you who do not know anything about hunting with dogs, as JBoutfishn has impliied, these dogs are very expensive. In Namibia we will use a guy with his pack of 15-20 dogs to handle all of the leopard hunts. The dog handler fee is what he charges an outfitter to do a leopard hunt anywhere.

Even though dogs will be used and the success rate will be very high, I will not guarantee any leopard to anyone. It is hunting, and if one is not prepared to give it there best shot and maybe not get a leopard, then do not go hunting. Success rate will be very high though and to be safe, would put success rate at 90-95%. Last year Barry did two trial leopard hunts to make sure that the dog guy had good dogs and to see how everythig would work. They shot two Leopards.

The first leopard was with a client and the second leopard was Lizelle Burchell. These two leopards are what one can expect for qualiity of leopard.

All I will say is that for $12,500 for a leopard hunt it is a great deal and do not know of many other options for leopard in this price range. There is also plains game hunting as well. For those who might be interested in this hunt and will be at the Reno show, then come by and talk to us and meet with Barry in person. I am putting my money on one of these hunts this year and will give you another report when I do that hunt, although will be closer to the end of the year as I have to go to Cameroon again in March and then Tanzania in July.

As to travel time to Trudia from Windhoek if memory serves me correctly it is about the same time as to Keetmanshoop or about 5 hrs.
