BrettAKSCISafari Mag: Credit Where Credit Is Due
..........so I've been pissing and moaning about how bad SCI's magazine Safari has been lately. Well I got the latest edition in the mail today. It's like the Safari mag of old. I'm impressed. I counted 9 hunting articles I want to read. There were a number of other good articles, but just not of interest to me not included in those 9. It really looked like SAFARI magizine. No pen shot 5,000 inch Canadian elk stories and/or 4 whitetail stories in the one issue. There were articles from all over the world from alpine hunting to wing shooting to dangerous game hunting to.....well they pretty well had it all covered. Kudos to them.

Brett
PS. I pray this is the CONTINUED look of SCI's Safari magazine.

May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

SevensI too was quite happy with the spread of hunts. Even saw an article written by a friend of mine.
I definitely agree the whitetail hunting stories are a waste of space. I know whitetail hunting makes up the bulk of what Americans hunt, but god I hate to read about it.
Anyone notice the magazine isn't as thick as it usually is around the holidays? Looking a couple years back, the issues right before the annual convention were going around 250 pages. Perhaps it's a sign of the economy and less people hunting (or less people donating hunts/guns to showcase).

The number of pages in any profitable publication is based on the amount of advertising sold for that issue.
Years ago, when I directed SCI's publications, I established a 50% to 50% ratio (advertising to editorial material) for Safari Magazine and 70% advertising to 30% editorial matter for Safari Times, a ratio that most newspapers try to follow.
I retired a dozen years ago, but it appears those ratios still are being followed.

BlacktailerAgree 100%. Most times when everything in Safari is who got into the umpteenth inner circle I just browse thru and toss it. This time I will read most of it.
