No , this is not a report on some named and collared Lion. I think we've all just about had enough of that.

I'm in between hunts. I woke up this morning to a wet , cold , overcast day. Strange weather for us here in the lowveld this time of the year. I rounded up the family and we decided to have brunch in Kruger.
We were treated to the normal array of game like Wildebeest , Zebra , Giraffe , Buffalo , Elephant and such. This guy however caught our attention. Lying out in the wet grass , he was looking very sternly in one direction.

Before long we saw the focus of his attention - His partner , they were obviously a coalition. Two very fine mature male lions. What a site.

The 2 Males casually approached each other. Then one of my sons drew my attention to another Big Male approaching them from the left. 3 males ! Absolutely awesome ! The Big boy on the left is obviously in a class of his own.

My obsession with Kruger and its wildlife is well known. This place is so special. I feel very fortunate to be able to " quickly " go for brunch with the family and run into this on the way. Lets hope this paradise stays preserved for generations to come.

And Jan in your opinion what age are those Lions?

Indeed in my 40 years in the wild I have never come across such as those. Even in Kenya.

Awesome Jan,

These lion male coalitions sure make for impresive sightings.

I will be at Pretoriuskop late in October for a couple of nights to get my Kruger fix...

Andrew , I'm no expert on aging Lions , I'm sure there are members here that are better at that . My gut feeling says around 7 years old. I don't know if the picture show this properly but 2 of them had huge bodies. Real Brutes. I bet MS wouldn't put one of these big boys on his shoulders ... stir Now Aaron , he might... Wink

Actually lions of this quality are not rare in Kruger. We often see them darker than these. The Genetics in Kruger are great. The biggest coalition I've seen there was , I believe , 5 males.
