Got two ways to get there. The Delta route via Atlanta or the Lufthansa route out of Frankfurt with a 12 hour layover. Lufthansa would save me around $800 including a day hotel. What say ye?

Agree with Mike. Best airline ever. Drive to Houston and take Emirates to Harare via Dubai. Emirates paid for our hotel for the Dubai layover, meals, visas, airport shuttle and it was less than Delta. Traveling with rifles was a breeze; checked them in at Houston and then picked them up in Harare.

Option...
SAA out of Dulles and (I think) JFK. They leave early morning, arriving morning/midday in Jo-burg.

Have not, but would like to try Emirates! Heard nothing but good things.

Hmmmm.
I've heard you guys talking about Emirates before.
I've always done the direct 7:10 PM Atlanta (Delta) direct flight
In my mind I not only arrived in way way fewer hours but the fact it left at 7pm intentionally allowed me to sleep ( which I don't do well on planes) and arrive at 5 pm there and then jump around 7 pm to say Harare, Windhoek, Port Elizabeth, etc and get to my final destination at say 10pm their time and sleep.
Gets me there in the least time.. I sleep... I feel good.

I am using Travel with Guns. Unfortunately for the Frankfurt option, Zimbabwe is on Germany's list of prohibited countries to transport firearms. The appeal with them besides saving about $800 with Delta was I would not have to recheck my firearms. Going into Houston from Shreveport would mean rechecking on Emirates.

We flew to Bulawayo via Frankfurt, with an overnight in Joberg. It went okay, but it was a long trip. Flew overnight from Houston to Frankfurt, then flew overnight from Frankfurt to Joberg, and then overnight in Joberg. It just took too long.

Go Duke!!

The night in Jo'burg adds to the cost and time but to be rested before landing in Zim is worth something. Once I made the long flight to Zim and I was dead tired for a couple of days. A night in the City Hotel or a B&B is worth it for me.

What about Emirates if you must got Bulawayo?

Emirates doesn't go to Bulawayo, only Harare.
