Mate there are two strong AR members in Cameroon as we speak and it will be interesting to see what they have to say.

Cameroon seems to be the best West African option if you are to self guide.

Benin is very affordable and lots of quota available. Probably wise to go with the best here.

CAR is pretty much off the menu for the foreseeable future. the area around the Bangui airport is a sprawling refugee camp surrounded by razor wire and UN peacekeepers. it gave me the creeps just sitting on the plane there waiting to go on to Yaounde

Just returned from Cameroon, I was pleasantly surprised! to be honest we could have shot out in 2 days, we've seen as much game as I have seen in some of the better areas in Africa, Roan,Korrigum Giant Eland every day! we shot every specie we went for and was done in 3 days expect for western buffalo got one on day 6. Hunting was not hard it was not as hot as I expected it to be. We could have shot A big Lord Derby everyday! Getting in and out of the airports is a pain in the ass and if you don't charter it is almost 2 days traveling but that is Africa ...

I was in CAR with CAWA in Feb '14 at the height of the "civil war". Yes it was tense but we never experienced any problems and had a wonderful hunt. However, the cattle grazing encroachment from Sudan, Chad, or wherever, is having a negative effect on the wildlife there compared to observations on my trip in '11. Everybody on this forum needs to get behind to Chinko Project http://www.chinkoproject.com/ to help preserve what is left.

I returned from a 12 day safari in Cameroun with Safaris Chelet last night. I had an excellent hunt in the savannah for LDE, buffalo, western hartebeest, harnessed bushbuck, RF duiker and Sing Sing waterbuck. Other than the heat, dust and bugs, no issues whatsoever. Easy trip in and out on AirFrance and the internal flights with Camair were on time. No issues with the people and officials on the ground. Everyone extremely nice and trying to help... a few tried to extract tips, etc. for service but no worse than many African countries I have visited.

I flew into Ngauondere instead of Garoua. I hear there is a small contingent of US military advisors in Garoua working with the Cameroun and Chad forces on training exercises but no issues with Boko Haram that I heard of while there.

I would have no qualms recommending hunting in Cameroun. It is the real deal and if you like spending time on tracks you will enjoy Cameroun!

glad you had a good trip, Russ, and looking forward to the report. Ngaoundere' is really something else with all the local "taxi" drivers on motorbikes and hopped up on meth and dagga! i am amazed that Camair was on time. the locals called it Canair( as in cancellation). when we flew in and out of Yaounde, every Camair flight was listed on the board as cancelled.
