I'm sort of surprised that this hadn't been posted, I heard about it last Thursday but wasn't sure it was factual, I guess it is. Also heard changes were happening in their Foundation as well. I sincerely wish Phil the best of luck in his new endeavor.

Thanks, Karl. This was the first I'd heard about Phil returning to Reno. I also wish him the best of luck.

Is that strange or what? How the president of SCI can be associated with Reno hotels and the city of Reno.I wonder what else is there that we don't know about those at the top of SCI?

Hopefully it is a positive development for SCI.

When I read about the background of DeLone it is hard for me to see how he would be anywhere close to the right fit for SCI given the challenges the sport faces. He appears to have come from an entertainment/convention background and that would not be the skill set I would be looking for in an executive director in this day and age . . . I would think someone with a more public profile, politically active, a history of successfully driving change in organizations, etc. would be a better fit.

While much less likely, I would like to think (dream) that SCI is actually revisiting their organizational model and talking about bringing in a strong, empowered executive director that has some autonomy from the board to define and push changes. Doubtful but we can be hopeful.

All round, seems like this could be a net positive development.

RENO-TAHOE TOURISM BOSS TARGET OF MISCONDUCT INVESTIGATION
AP
January 29, 2020 at 12:51 pm | The Associated Press

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The top tourism boss for Reno-Tahoe is being investigated for unspecified allegations of misconduct.

An attorney for the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority confirmed Tuesday that President and CEO Phil DeLone is the subject of an ongoing personnel investigation.

RSCVA attorney Benjamin Kennedy acknowledged the probe in response to a public records request submitted by the Reno Gazette Journal.

Kennedy declined to provide any details about the nature of the inquiry.

He says releasing the information would jeopardize the integrity of the investigation and potentially impact the candor of multiple witnesses who have yet to be interviewed. He says any records related to the investigation are exempt from disclosure under Nevada law.

DeLone was hired as the new RSCVA CEO in a 5-3 board vote in November 2016. The former head of Safari Club International was brought in to bring stability to an organization that was previously described as dysfunctional by several of its own board members after it went through several CEOs.

DeLone's predecessor Chris Baum was fired without cause in 2015.

Kathi: It would be greatly appreciated if you could start a whole new post with the recent information on Phil DeLone, along with the two recent newspaper/media articles.

During Hunter Biden's brief time in the US Navy (before he was discharged for cocaine abuse) he obviously never heard the old adage: "Spend a nickel, save your pickle"

It's going to be a bad day and good day when some Netflix-like documentary comes out about SCI. Good for entertainment about the people and structure involved - not in a good way unless that's not obvious. Bad day for hunting and conservation because it will be biased and it will cast a very bad light.

People love to hate, especially when they feel justified about who they hate and SCI makes such a delicious target.

Organizations love to say "let's control the message". I hope SCI can and I hope they do but I wouldn't bet on it.
