Oiling horns?
I posted this on the taxidermy side of the website but I seem to get more responses from this forum for most things.

I posted recently about bleaching skulls prepped in Africa. I have a second question involving these skulls...

What do you put on the horns of African antelope to make them look better. Right now they look kind of rough and dried out.

Thanks in advance.

Believe it or not, my taxidermist recommended using "Mop & Glow" on the horns to shine them up and it worked.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

I always us furnture oil, don't spray the with a finish!

The best I've found is "Wilbert's" lemon oil, you can get it in any food store. I've been using it it the taxidermy business for over 29 years! It works!

My taxi recommended WD-40.

Prayer, planning, preperation, perseverence, proper procedure, and positive attitude, positively prevents poor performance.

My taxidermist (as well) recommends WD-40. He says he has been doing it for years.

I had three Buffalo skulls that were dry and dusty looking. After soaking them with WD-40, they look great.

On a skull mount, I lay a rag between the bosses to keep te WD-40 from getting on the skull. I do not know if it would make any difference or not ...
