I personally want to thank you for posting the photo of John F. Kennedy.

I know full well that this is a world wide forum, but to honor an American president this way touches me......and I can only assume a lot of other American posters as well

Thanks....I assume Saeed.

Y'know, I appreciate it too. But this is an international forum, so I hope we see other presidents, chancellors, prime ministers, sultans and even the odd king on similar historic occasions. Broadens the mind.

I'm no fan of J.F. Kennedy's either (or any Kennedy for that matter), but I like the international flavor offered at AR and the fact that we are able to show respect to all nationalities, religions, etc.

You don't appreciate it or you don't agree that broadening one's mind is a good thing? Would you feel the same if the photo were of a deceased "conservative"? I doubt it. Not all hunters or shooters fit your political ideal, Jorge...get used to it.

Best.

Hmmm let's see, we have a president who was assasinated, but we don't want to remember him because we don't like his stand on gun control? Or, we didn't like his politics so therefore we don't recognise him? Most interesting! I can tell you exactly where I was when I heard that JFK was killed. Sorry, I can't remember where I was when I heard that Ronald Reagan had died. Most Americans have no idea of the impact of JFK on the rest of the world. At least in the Commonwealth, it was huge. That was a time of optimism, of faith in American leadership, of faith in the future. Those days are LONG GONE. That "political capital" to coin a phrase has been used up.
Peter.

JFK anti-gun, humm, I wonder about that. It's my understanding he was actually a NRA member. He also favored lowering the top marginal rates on taxes and other things that might be considered "concervative" by some today. Didn't the modern anti-gun movement really start in the USA in 1968 after the deaths of RFK and MLK and the passage of the '68 gun act?

JTG: I think you need to stay in Egypt or wherever you belongbecasue it ain't here in the US. You seem to take every opportunity to bash this country and how much better it is in europe or wherever you happen to be.
Although you observation regarding my opinion on JFK (and the rest of that curse upon the American political landscape that are the Kennedys) were spot on, I was referring to the fact that if we do it for the US, we need to do it to everybody and this is not the place for it. And yes there are a few, very few democrats who are not totally brain dead and actually support the Second Amendment.

Hunter Montana, you are correct sir. The big gun control movement started (and continues)with the democrats in 68 along with all of their other failed policies, hell bent on destroying the American way of life in favor of a socialist, big goverment driven utopia, where personal freedoms are sacrificed on the altar of "goverment knows best" jorge

Comment about JFK being more like a conservative are true. He was very much against taxes, and was more of a conservative than his booze swilling, womaninzing brother Teddy. Most people consider him very liberal due to the policies of Johnson on social issues in the 60's. He only picked Johnson to win the south.

I think the Kennedys such as Teddy and some of the younger ones have their own interests at heart above the downtrodden masses they claim to represent.

No matter what you think of a political view, I believe we as Americans should at least show respect for our presidents no matter what.

IMHO

Hey Peter

I was packing my gear bound for Zimbabwe when Ronald Reagan died. I do remember that, as for JFK, I was home sick from school, my mom was ironing when it came over the radio.

Well, folks no matter what you think of JFK it was a nice gesture, to honor a murdered, and fallen Predident, of any country, especially if the honor was made by someone from another country.

I agree, however, this is not the place to duscuss the politics of that person. The honor is international, the politics of this man, and his family is AMERICAN, and that is for the political forum, and has nothing to do with African hunting.

Personly I wouldn't give one Zambian Kwatcha for the whole of the Kennedy clan, and I'm Irish! thumbdown I don't, however, think my opinion of JFK, or his family is of much interest in most safari camps in Africa!

Mac: It was a nice gesture regardless, my only objection was not to do it here and we must also remember other international leaders.

As to "comrad" JTG, It was *you* who opened up the can of worms by bringing politics into this. I don't have the inclination nor the time to get into a political discussion that you are obviously to obtuse to comprehend, but many of us here remember your rantings on how much better it was in europe than here in the the US until one of the posters showed us the latest and greatest "shitters" they had over there in Greece. Anyhow, this whole discussion proves my point that this belongs somewhere other than here. jorge

You guys are all welcome. It is not a big deal to do a banner. If anyone wants one in honor of their country/holiday/cause (sorry no PETA requests) just PM me and we'll see what we can do. I did that rifle .gif 7 years ago, it's boring for me to see it daily.

Just the facts...

Recently, on the aniversary of JFK's assasination, a banner was posted on AR in honor of JFK. This thread followed from that. Given the international character of AR, of African hunting, and the somewhat ambivalent feelings many hold to the Kennedy's, it seems to have invited a little discussion.

OK Don, change the target into different animals being shot, Dugga boy, Ele., Kudu, Grizzly bear, etc. After all, this is a hunting related sight, right.

Why not post the picture of the guy who just purchased over 9 billion dollars of Boeings for Dubai.
