So it looks like this go ahead. It had been stopped, but challenges in the courts have now given the go ahead.

As bad as it sounds we do need copper in this world

When I'm ready to go, pack a bag of gunpowder up my ass and strike a fire to my pecker, until I squeal like a boar.

Hopefully,(but doubtful) the environmental impacts will be minimal. I just read about the Kennecott (Rinto Tinto) open pit mine just west/southwest of Salt Lake City today (it can be seen from outer space and is the largest man-made excavation and deepest open pit mine in the world-producing more copper than any other mine in history), and the remedial measures that they are finally taking to clean up the environment from a mine that has been operating there since 1863.

A good friend of mine used to work in that mine - crawling into the ventilation ducting and banging off the accumulation from the insides of the ducts. That was when he was in his early 20s in the late 80s and he still has a cough.

Copper in form of dust particles in combo with silica is pretty deadly stuff
